Which is better for gaming at 1440p?
As I am upgrading my house from a 650ti, I have the option to go for either a gtx Titan black, or a gtx 980. I will overclock either, but I'm not sure which to go for. Some of the games I will be playing are: GTA V, Grid and Titanfall.

I think the gtx Titan black may be better due to the 6GB frame buffer at 1440p, correct me if I am wrong, but the 980 has a higher clock speed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :)

Rumors are rumors, I'm expecting the 960 to be out by Christmas and new 980 Ti/Titan to be out around the same period or Q1 (really whenever AMD comes out with their cards).

I don't use AMD either, but they are a big factor on what comes out from Nvidia.

It would be more logical in my opinion to put the card out before christmas because of sales.
But, we'll just have to wait and see.

To be fair, I don't really care about amds line up, as the 1440p monitor has gsync. So I'm nvidia all the way.

I have heard of some rumours that we may see a new card around January.

Oops, double post.

Won't happen, 20nm isn't close to being ready and there is a good chance they have scrapped it to go to 16nm, however I personally doubt that because if I was Nvidia I'd want to milk all the cards I can.

Titan does seem interesting, but the specs have to be there. 512bit bus, 8gb Vram, at least 3000cuda (don't know the math offhand with GM200). However, a 1k card like a Titan is a big jump from where the 'gaming' cards are and where the 300x series will be from AMD.

If the 990 will be a dual gpu card, like the r9 295x2, I will probably just get 1. However, if a new Titan comes out, I'll be tempted to snatch 2.

( or maybe nvidia will pull a naming crisis and go straight to the 1000 line... :3 )

Be advised a 990 will almost definitely be a dual GPU card, thus requiring an SLI bridge. If you want 2 1440p monitors you will probably want to SLI anyway. Who knows, maybe a new Titan will come out that is 50-100% faster than 980 with GM200 and that would be fantastic.

In that case, I might do what you're doing and wait for a 990, then get 2 + another 1440p monitor. By then I should have saved up enough to do that.

Go for the 980. Think of the Titan Black as a 780Ti with 6gb of VRAM. 4gb is enough for one 1440p monitor.

I am also switching to 1440p, but will be waiting for the 980Ti/990 as I want a card that can guarantee 60fps in almost all games. The 980 can certainly reach that, but obviously the more power the better.
