ASUS Strix GeForce GTX 980 DirectCU II OC + vertical orientation
Does anyone run this GPU in a case like Silverstone FT02/RV02? I know that blower-type cards are strongly recommended for that orientation but really like this card over the reference and wonder how hot it might get.

The problem with non-reference GPUs in vertical orientation is not airflow but heatpipes. If those are positioned lower than the heat source, the cooling liquid inside of them can't climb back up to the heat, thanks to the gravity. Here's a webarchive of the article - http://web.archive.org/web/20120121042329/http://en.exp... (the original doesn't exits already).

That would be the end of story if not numerous positive feedbacks in the past regarding using non-reference GPUs in this kind of cases. Unfortunately, lots of negative ones too, so I'm trying to gather info about this particular combo.

Should work a little better vertical. At least the exhaust grid will be on the top. As long as you move the air out of the case an axial gpu cooler is fine.
