Is it time for a new graphics cards? Overheating problem.
I've been having a heating issue with my graphics card. What first got my attention is I started hearing a constant clicking sound in my computer, then I could feel the air was starting to get warmer coming out of the back of my computer. My bottom case fan had went out so I replaced that thinking it would help. It did slightly, but according to CPUID, my graphics card temp was still around 80 degrees C. I have a GTX 580 card. Its roughly 4 years old. My PSU is 1200W so not worried about that. I mainly play World of Warcraft, Second Life, League of Angels, and League of Legends, none of which are really high on graphics. When I played WoW today to check out the new pre-expansion patch that came out yesterday, my card's temp shot up to 94 degrees. The only thing I can think of is my fan on my graphics card is going out and that's why its overheating. But I'm not sure so that is why I'm asking here. I have always gotten good advice here.

Do I need a new graphics card? If it is the fan on the graphics card, can it be fixed?

If I do need to replace the card, I really only have two options. Being the only working person in a family of four, funds are pretty limited or non-existent for things like this until income tax refund time in February. I want the GTX 770, but I'll have to wait for that till February. Or I could try to scrape together enough to get a GTX 750 Ti in a few weeks. I'm not sure which I should do.

I know with the new WoW expansion coming out next month, I'm going to be playing that more often now. I don't want to damage my whole computer though with these high temperatures. So I need some advice. Thank you for your time.

You might also consider change the thermal paste on the GPU. At four years, it might need replacing.

If you wanted to go the high end route the GTX 970 is better than the 770.

Have you cleaned the cooler on the card?
