Should i upgrade GT 430 to GT 640 ?
Hi there,

I got pretty ancient rig right here. Core 2 Q8200 @ 2.33 GHZ with 4GB DDR2. and GT 430 1GB
No idea what my MOBO is but it wont even let me try OCing CPU.

I am milking it for years and really don't want to splash the cash for new rig just now if i don't absolutely have to.

I realize my CPU is a bottleneck here, and i read somewhere that going post GT 640 would not make much sense. Question is would i really see a reasonable improvement between GT 430 and 640 ?

I don't expect miracles here, but for example i just put on NBA2K15 and i need lowest possible settings for it to be playable, just playable :(

Your CPU isn't horrible. It will bottleneck depending on the game but you will see a substantial gain

PSU should not be a problem they all run on modern 300watts. It is a quad you have so I see nothing wrong going with GTX750 even if bottlenecked a little it will be a massive improvement.

Almost double http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Zotac/GeForce_GT_640... make sure you get (G)DDR5 version. I would actually brave a GTX750 if you have the money for it.

Yeah i was looking at EVGA NVIDIA GTX 750Ti SC 1176MHz (Boost 1255MHz) 5400MHz 2GB 128-bit GDDR5 HDMI DVI-I DP PCI-E Graphics Card.

My main worry is that yes this card is twice as fast as what i got but will that actually be reasonable improvement in practice with the ancient CPU i got.
Also my PSU is only 300W but i think 640 as well as 750 use about same power as 430 so shouldn't be a problem
