GTX 980 Gigabyte/EVGA/MSI/Asus
So basically it sounds like the Windforce is the best because everyone says it's got the best cooler and it's quite and to avoid EVGA because of the heatsink issues and blah blah blah. But what if I was planning on watercooling? What would be the best card that I could get the best overclock out of in a water cooling loop? Is there a card that overclocks better than others? I leaning more towards EVGA because that's what the new record was broken on (granted it was with liquid nitrogen) but I'm not sure if the brand matters much at the point they're overclocking at. So yeah which brand is best? And for that brand, would it be better to get say a gigabyte windforce over the reference card or would they both end up overclocking the same when watercooled?

TL;DR: Best GTX 980 for overclocking *when watercooled

I would suggest asus and msi, gigabyte and sapphire are both excellent by the way. I suggest getting the cheapest out of the 4. Though looks dont matter the quality of the parts do for that overclock.

______________
Sapphire sticks to AMD GPUs, haven't seen heard of them going to nVidia GPUs, there was a rumor out months back, but haven't seen any followup

Running quiet and looks don't really mean anything though since the coolers will be taken off and replaced with a waterblock anyway

I'd go the Asus Strix, hoping to get one by the weekend, quiet and runs cool ;)

i love the look of the asus strix and the twin frozor v is not far behind in design. Also the new fans have been proven to decrease temps(by a couple of C)

Lol doesnt matter that evga broke the record, what matters is they are cheaping out on thier design for the 980ti/980 to avoid making a new cooler. I would recommend asus or msi for they're awesome looks, personal preference, and for their good cooling and overclockability. Evga has great customer service though, but you'll break warranty by putting the block on.
