Asus Z97 Maximus VII Hero Audio Drivers
While researching Z97 motherboards I came across the Asus Maximus VII Hero, after doing more research into this motherboard I have heard about audio driver issues.

I am currently on Windows 8.1 64-bit and have not come across any issues for Win8, only for Win7. My question is will this driver be an issue on my OS if I upgraded to this motherboard?
I am currently using Realtek Audio Drivers but I cannot check the version I am using as I am currently at work.

Please help me out before I decide to buy, thanks.

You will likely need to. Windows 7 and 8 keys tie themselves the the serial number of the motherboard. You may also need to contact Microsoft to enable the use of your key to the motherboard. Other issues exist as well, mainly with drivers. You will need to re install in order to make the new motherboards drivers available to the OS or you will just BSOD over and over again.

Of course you can always back up your personal data to another drive, install windows, move your data back, and re install your old programs. It's a hassle, but better than tearing it back down, putting the old motherboard in and repeating the steps to back up your data and having to start the new install again.

Hi there,

Driver issues are can be taken care of in the future easily, and Asus is known for great support for their products. I wouldn't worry about it.

Okay, I'm a tad worried that I will mess something up when changing my motherboard as it will be an upgrade in socket type also. I am confident in myself to replace a motherboard but I know I have to reinstall Windows afterwards. Also, will I have all my programs and data still available as soon as I reinstall my OS and would I have to verify my Steam games again?
