Hi again, OfficialG3!

I don't think this is such a good idea. Yes, it is not safe to do this while the PC is on. You should always perform such procedures with everything powered OFF. Not to mention that even if you can fit 2 drives in one slot, I wouldn't recommend to put them together or on top of each other in any case whatsoever!
The health status of your drive means that there might be some bad sectors on it.
I'd suggest to run chkdsk from the command prompt (Run as Admin) > type chkdsk x: /r (where x- is the drive letter assigned to your HDD)
This should be able to locate and fix bad sectors. However the drive may be failing, so I'd back it up just in case.

Hope this helped. :)

Hey there, OfficialG3!

They will work, but there's a few things to be aware of.
SATA drives use the same connectors for both laptop and desktop, so you wouldn't have any trouble to use a 2.5 HDD in a desktop. Even though you don't want to, I personally would recommend to get a 2.5" to 3.5" HDD caddy.

And just for the info OP, 2.5" drives are slower than conventional 3.5" HDDs.
