My graphics card isn't being detected
My graphics card isn't being detected. I just set up my first computer, Fx 8350, Asus m65a99fx motherboard and a Sapphire Radeon vapor x 280x GPU. EVerything else is working fine except my graphics card isn't be used?! I don't get it, because I am connected to my monitor through my graphics card

Do I needed to have installed drivers or something for anything? It's my first time buulding and I don't have an optical drive either so usb is my only form of installing things. Please help!

Windows 8.1

I couldn't originally, it showed nothing. I changed something in the Bios before though that put PCI as first preference and that's when this showed up.

Alright thanks I'll have a look at that tonight

ok kool remember to select the solution as it may help others with the same issue

I looked at CPU-Z and it says that I have 3gb of graphics (which is what the GPU should be) but it says that it's called AMD RADEON 7900.. That's what I find weird. The Gb is right but the name isn't. Would this be a driver problem or?

i taught you said you couldnt get the card to be detected .. the cardsimply needs the driver installed .. it currently has windows 7 basic drivers and its simple telling you that you have 79xx series card .. visit this link and run the auto detect tool and the problem will be fixed http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/auto-detect-tool

ok then try removing the cmos battery from the motherboard and then reseating it and see if that resolves the problem..

you need to go into the bios and and set the video feed to auto and it will then start using the gpu .. first connect the monitor to the motherboard directly and go to the bios and and set the video to pci express or just auto and let the motherboard do the rest.. then reconnect to the gpu and boot

I can't connect it to the motherboard directly I don't think because it doesnt have onboard graphics. There is nowhere for me to connect it.. :(

After re-reading it...
It sounds like he may be right. If the card isn't showing up in the system at all, including the device manager, then you probably don't have it enabled or manually set to 'onboard'.

If it is already on auto, or 'discrete' in the BIOS but you still don't get any image on screen, it is possibly a bad GPU.
If this is the case, try to reset CMOS.

If you do get a picture on your screen and can boot to Windows the GPU is detected normally. At this point install the device driver.

Hi Jake,
If I understand correctly - you installed Windows 8.1 with your monitor plugged directly into the GPU (280x).

You will definitely need to install drivers for the 280x. You can find them here:
http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Window...

I know the link says Window 7, but it is for both Windows 7 and 8/8.1 x64.

Download and install the drivers.
