Sapphire 7850 Dual-X - Ghetto Fan Replacement - Opinions?
'Ello lads.

The first fan on my dual-x (the one closest to the metal bracket) is louder than the stock HSF that came with my 965. That's feckin' loud.

I do happen to have a spare "be quiet! Pure Wings 2 1500RPM 120mm" fan. These lil' doozies keep things cool and are practically silent; I was thinking of removing the dud fan, and then cable-tying the 120mm fan to the shroud.

Thing is, I don't know how effective that'd be. What with the whole, err, shroud thing. I have read reviews on those fans which take up a pci bracket in yer case, so as to cool your graphics card; seems that they work a treat (-10C), so mayhaps my ghetto plannin' holds a bit of weight?

So yeah. Tying a 120mm fan on a HSF that has a working 92mm fan next to it. Good idea, or bad?

Bit the bullet and used cable ties to attach the fan to the shroud. So far so good. Ran New Vegas with an ENB just fine. Going to do a Skyrim marathon and see how the temps fare.

well all you can do is stick it on it and see it will work fine or it won't

and may fall in to your skill set on repairing or jack legging things

so in till you try and see for your self you really don't or will never know

My RMA ended a couple months ago, so I cannae get an RMA.

I'd rather not spend money fer another fan when I've got a big ol' doozey just laying around; that is, supposing it can be used fer this purpose.

That, and the fan me graphics card wants, is a 92mm one. But yeah; I'd like to have a couple opinions on my initial plan, just so I don't waste time/fuck something up.
