I currently have a single Sapphire Radeon R9 270X and i am looking to upgrade my PC. I am considering getting an EVGA GeForce GTX 970 but i am wondering whether buying another R9 270X and running dual graphics card will compare.

When in doubt, the more powerful single card is almost always the better answer. Lots less to worry about, usually less power consumption, and crossfire is a roll of the dice. You could get much better than the performance of a single r9 270x; you could get the same performance as a single 270x, or you could get worse performance than a single card. It all depends on the program and how well it deals with crossfire. Not my favorite thing in the world. Thanks for the advice

you mean r9 270X right not r9 290X?That's tough, but in the long run I believe the gtx 970 will be better because you won't have crossfire/sli troubles and it has a more advanced feature set that will last a while.
Yeah that's what i meant. I fixed it. As far as performance right now do you know how they would compare?
Since the R9 270X is a little faster or equal (depending on what clock speeds) to the GTX 760, two should be faster than a GTX 970 and equal to a little faster than the GTX 980.
So twin R9 270Xes is faster, but you might run into crossfireX issues that amd is known for.
Alright I'll bear that in mind. Thanks for the help
