About four years ago, with the help of this community, I built my first PC. It has been a great machine, but I think its time to upgrade the video card. Last night, I tried to install Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor, but my twin 4850's don't support the DirectX 11 needed to play the game.
APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: This weekend
BUDGET RANGE: $100-200 Before Rebates
USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Playing the latest games like Shadow of Mordor,
every day usage, Watching HD Videos, Maybe some video capture and editing to create youtube videos.
CURRENT GPU AND POWER SUPPLY:
2 in Crossfire - 1 x SAPPHIRE 100245HDMI Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-Bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card
PSU - Antec EarthWatts EA650 650W Continuous Power ATX12V Ver.2.2 / EPS12V version 2.91 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC "compatible with Core i7/Core i5" Power Supply
OTHER RELEVANT SYSTEM SPECS:
CPU (4th core unlocked) - AMD Athlon II X3 440 Rana Triple-Core 3.0GHz Socket AM3 95W Desktop Processor ADX440WFGIBOX
MoBo - ASUS M4A79XTD EVO AM3 AMD 790X ATX AMD Motherboard
Memory (2 sets, 4 sticks total) - 1 x G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL7D-4GBRH
PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: Newegg, Amazon, really anywhere
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: USA
PARTS PREFERENCES: I've been a fan of AMD, but will go with anything that gives good performance for the money.
OVERCLOCKING: Maybe
SLI OR CROSSFIRE: Maybe in the future
MONITOR RESOLUTION: 1920x1080, I have 3 screens I'd like to use. My main monitor (23 inch monitor), an old VGA flat panel, and occasionally my 40 inch HD TV a few feet from the PC.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:
1) I'd like something at least as powerful as the cards I am replacing.
2) I'm concerned the CPU will bottle neck the card/system.
3) Can I have the both monitors and the TV all working at once (i.e., three screens)?
4) A thin card that I could fit two of would be great in case I want to do crossfire in the future, but not super important.
POTENTIAL CARDS
I'm open to any cards you think will be a good fit. After reading the September's Best Graphics cards for the money article, I think I am leaning towards a Radeon R7 265. I'm just concerned that it might be overkill with my older system.
Thank you for any help you can provide.
