Really slow PC Hard drive need to be replaced ?
Hey

My hardrive is up to a replacement i guess. when i move something from the C or D it just moves it with 20MB/s if its not lesser.

also since yesterday i experience a very long booting time. first i see a black screen with a blinking tripe on the top left for about 5 minutes. than i get to the windows 8 blue boot logo whice also takes like 5 minutes if not more.

i suppose its my hard drive since its from 2007 and has been used like almost everyday for atleast 6 hours up to 12 hours a day. it is an Samsung HD501LJ

I tryed a program called parkdale.

Parkdale is a program that will test your read and write speed of your hard drive.

when im using that tool my disk is 100% usage. when that program is running and i am gaming in the meanwhile this happends :

Notice the sound in the video if u didnt :p

i think all those little things like : slow booting, slow writing, game sound lagg ( dont know how to call it ) is a sing of my hard drive not being able to run my tasks of nowaday

Specs :
X4 640
XFX 7770 Double dissipation
Antec High current Gamer 400W
4gb DDR3 1600MHz
Samsung HD501LJ 500GB

One question: How full is your hard drive? When mechanical drives get very full (over ~80% of capacity) you can sometimes see them start to struggle with longer seek times, load times, etc.

Given the age of the drive and the problems you're experiencing, though, it's entirely likely that you should look at replacing it. Since you're on W8, I doubt it's Windows rot since you must've done a fresh install fairly recently. All of the advice in this thread so far is good.

Hi there vinootje,

As you drive is around 7 years old it may not be a bad idea to replace it. Regarding your current one, I would advice you to run a hard drive testing tool on it to check out its overall health. It may have some bad sectors. Just keep in mind that game lags may occur not only as a result of a bad drive. The drive performance is mainly related to the loading times, not the overall gaming performance.
I would say that the WD Black, that Emerald proposed, will be a good fit for a gaming computer.

If you decide to get a new drive, get a WD Black
