Brand New WD 1 TB Black
Purchased and plugged in my new WD 1TB Black. It shows up in BIOS and in Device Manager, however, not in Disk Management. The new drive even shows up in my Intel Rapid Storage app.

Running Windows 8.1 Pro

Device Manager

Disk Management

aand everyone thought windows vista was bad-- everything about this windows 8 is just silly.
I guess you tried to re boot to see if it would find it that way??

also try to unhook the optical drives and see if theres something to that and the harddrives are pluged in to stata ports 1 and 2 of your board

just don't know all I researched on this seems to go round and round and nothing really solid to go with

with out being there for hands on its hard to see really whats going on or if somthings being missed some how

one thing to try is if the drives are showing up under computer try to move a file over from your working drive and see what may happen with that it may pop up something it needs you to do to put a file in it and get the ball rolling ???

sorry I was not no more help on this and hope you find something out to resolve

good luck

I have been reading a lot of posts on other boards regarding this issue - With Windows 8.1, if you have secure boot enabled and/or UEFI enabled, when you add hard drives, they aren't recognized properly for some reason. When you disable both, reboot, "poof" - the drives are there. After partitioning them and formatting them, reboot and re-enable them both, and the drives are still there.

I haven't found anything on Microsoft's site about this....

I was reading a post on Dell's forums - it seems there are quite a few motherboards that have UEFI BIOS, and when you have Windows 8.1 loaded, it won't allow you to add the drives. The solution is to change UEFI to Legacy mode, disable secure boot, reboot, add the drives (partition & format them), then go back to the BIOS and change from Legacy mode to UEFI, enable secure boot and reboot. The drives should still be there.
