4790k Overheats and turns off the computer HELP!!!
Hello,

I need your help!!

I recently build a new computer and everything was going fine until there is little stress on the cpu.
The instant where I run cpu stress programs, the computer immediately turns off and restart.
I don't know where the problem lies and I don't really know how I could resolve it...
The idle temperature seems all right (about 25-35). It is really when I work in after effects or play games where the temp goes crazy high. (>80)

Intel Core i7-4790k

Thank you for your help!!

Updating the bios to F6 COMPLETELY solved the issue. I'm running a cpu test as I'm typing LOL
According to HWMonitor the vcore never goes higher than 1.212v.
The core temperatures are at round 73c after 15 minutes of the cpu test.
According to the Gigabyte utility the cpu is at 65c.

I should be all right with these temperatures right?

Big thanks for the support!!! : D

Your temps are fine. I have a Noctua NH-D14. With a 4770k and when I run Intel Burn Test. I sometimes got up to about 81c. Which is fine.. It running that hot ALL the time isn't good. But if your temps are fine when gaming and all that. Then dont worry about it.

Before doing anything else, I'm going to update the bios for now.

I tried to manually set the vcore to 1.1 earlier and the result was bad.
I had to use the back up bios because the computer wouldn't boot in windows or go in the bios. It was really weird.
It is currently set to auto and it is showing 1.100 next to it.

That is high try setting the vcore to manual set it for 1.20 and see what it does.

According to CPU-Z, The core voltage sometimes go to 1.398.
Is that normal?

Also, according to this thread

Having similar component, the guy Flashed the bios and it fixed his issue.

But, I find it very weird that the computer turns off immediately when I start a cpu test.

Is it possible that the temperature of a cpu go that high in such a short time.

It's your best bet

I'm on the stock cooler currently and the temp increased by about 10. I suppose the cpu is faulty because I don't see anything else that could be the problem. I get more than 70c when opening after effects...

I'm gonna start the Rma...

if everything is set to default and it is still overheating try a different cooler and if that doesnt work rma the chip you might have a problem with the TIM under the lid not dissipating heat
