Gigabyte Gaming GT or ASUS ROG Hero VII
I can't decide between:

Gigabyte:

Asus:

I've always had asus and they've been great boards, but after getting Gigabyte's GTX 970 cards I realized the build quality is phenomenal and I figured I should try out some of their other parts. I am planning to upgrade from my 2600k to a 4790k soon and I need a new motherboard. These are the two that have jumped to the top of my pile and I can't choose between them.

Again I'd like to try Giga, but the Asus Hero looks pretty nice. My needs are that I run 2 GTX 970s in SLI and I have an Asus Xonar Essence STX sound card. This also means that the onboard sound doesn't matter for me. The Giga GT seems nice for the space I'll get in between the cards, but the Hero also looks like it has decent space there as well. M.2 storage isn't a big deal for me as long as I can get SATA Express (which they both have). I will want to OC the devil's canyon a little, so overclocking is important. I don't plan on running any other video cards outside of the two so the PLX chip might be overkill on the Giga board, but it will give me the nice space. Also will two cards running in x16 be faster than two running in x8? If it is that will favor the Giga GT. I hear the build quality feels a little better with Giga boards these days, but ASUS has always been reliable and I've been using ASUS for 9 years now with success.

Not sure if many people have either of these...but any suggestions are appreciated :) .

Agree, I'm thinking of getting a 970 to play with and haven't decided yet, I normally look at Asus and EVGA first for nVidia cards, but like to try different brands, am doing a AMD build this weekend and grabbed the HIS water cooled 290X IceQ, which looks rather interesting for it.

Which one? ;)  I've got both (in sig) I did have a SB build that I sold, so I put together the Z79 (still somewhat in flux, just got a 980 Strix for it today, and may have a couple more changes coming), and also have sold my IB (the 3570K) so will prob replace it with another Z97 (maybe the Formula mobo) and am going to put together a AMD rig this weekend (the CPU cooler should arrive Sat)

Wow you are really an ASUS lover! Should have gotten that from the avatar. I too enjoy ASUS and I was going to go with the STRIX cards, but the reviews and extra power delivery for the GTX 970 Gigabyte cards was better so I went that route. I figured I'd try Giga mobos as well...but I don't know if I can stray from the ASUS mobos. I'm become so used to them for the past 9 years....they're very reliable.

Id go (and did) the Hero, their Z87 Hero was the class of the Z87s and the Z97 has improved all round, OCs better, handles DRAM better, runs cooler and the BIOS has been improvedHave run a variety of GPUs on mine - all w/ no problem up through 780TIs in SLI. Just got two new crds in to play with a 980 Strix and a 290 Ice Q Hybrid water cooled, will be playing with them this weekend

Thanks for the response! Yeah I'm still up in the air here...I'm also looking at Gigabyte's Gaming 7 and UD5H-BK...but I do really like the Asus boards.

Is yours the Hero VI or VII?
