GPU Advise for an x99 System For Photoshop and Capture one

Hi guys and thank in advance for your help.
I'm looking to build a beast in a Micro-ATX Case To replace my old School beast.

CPU:i7 920 on
Motherboard: p6t Deluxe V2
Ram12GB of ram at 534.5mhz (Don't ask me why)
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 7700 1gig ram
HDD:250 SSD , 2x 3TB Drives

But now I'm going beast mode and catching up with the times.
I have just ordered all of the below, in efforts to build a computer that will Run Photoshop CC and Most importantly Capture One 8. As my old system handles photoshop pretty well.

Also while not a priority Premier CC and After Effects CC. (I think I've only used them about 10 time in the past 10 years.)

My main reason of building my pc is to run a software called capture one 8
This is the only piece of software that is painstakingly slow.
However They say that I would get a lot of performance out well specked system and a good GPU. In one of the software showcase videos they say that it uses OpenCL to assist the CPU in processes.

When I wrote tech support to ask what kind of card I should be buying, they said.
AMD R9 290X
NVidia GTX 780Ti

Question 1: I'm wondering if that's over kill for my needs considering that I don't play any games on my pc, and these are pretty high end gaming cards.

The following is in their performance info on their site.
“If your computer has multiple graphics cards, Capture One Pro 8 offers you an unparalleled use of those resources with the world's first real multi GPU support. Tap into the computing power of these, and use them to accelerate editing tasks to unprecedented speed.”

Question 2 :Should I be looking to buy mutiple mid to high range cards or one Beast card?

System Specs so far.
1. CPU: Intel Core i7-5820K
2. Case: Corsair Obsidian 350D
3. Motherboard : Asrock Fatal1ty x99M Killer
4. CPU Cooler NZXT Kraken x31
5. Ram: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (4x 4GB) 2800 DDR4
6. PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 850 B2
7. 250GB SSD
8.2 3TB Drives from my old computer

That card will be just fine as it is a solid card which has very good cooling which is what you need for the r9 290x's

It depends on the software really as I have seen between 10-100% improvement in speeds over just the CPU, but it is just one of those things which requires knowledge of the specific program

Thanks again for walking me through this, is there any estimates or rule of thumb on what kind of percent increase one would gain from utilizing a beast card, than no card or one that doesn't aid the cpu with processing ?

depending on what those two lesser cards are than certainly it will be better, besides it is almost always better to have a single stronger card than a pair of weaker cards, besides, it means that you can always put a second one in if you feel that it is too slow at the moment.

The open CL usage from the GPU will significantly improve the speed of the job that you are doing as it means that the GPU is also doing work, not just the CPU

Thank you so much for the reply, Titan Black is too expensive for right now.
The R9 290x would be better than two lesser cards, given what that quote from the website says.
“If your computer has multiple graphics cards, Capture One Pro 8 offers you an unparalleled use of those resources with the world's first real multi GPU support. Tap into the computing power of these, and use them to accelerate editing tasks to unprecedented speed.”
It just might be some marketing bullshit.
I'm not sure how much of a performance increase I will see by having a beefed up GPU VS my already best specs, I have know ideal how much the CL is helping increase productivity. Do you have any insight?

Personally, I would go with the titan black if you can afford it as it is designed for this kind of usage, but if you can't afford it, I would go with the r9 290x as it has the better compute performance out of the two cards and also isn't restricted in any way like the 780ti
