Ok so I have a Gigabyte Intel board at the mo (Can't remember the model) with a E8200 DC processor O'Clocked to 3ghz via the BIOS. Standard multiplier changes al other settings left on auto. Standard cooler temp never goes about 45c even after gaming for 2 or 3 hours.
That has been fine however I am running out of RAM fairly regularly now - Often getting RAM errors in games like TitanFall and Crysis 2, my board only has 2 slots for DDR2 and only support 2GB max per slot, I currently have 2x2GB corsair ram in there but I also have 2 more 2GB sticks of Corsair just going spare (the original kit was a 8GB kit).
I also have another computer donated to me from a friend that has a GA-MA69VM-S2 board with a AMD Athlon 64 x 2 4800+ running at 2.5ghz, However crucially this has 4 DIMM slots so I could get the full 8GB into it.
I am thinking of swapping to the AMD board/processor and juicing it up via BIOS to around 3ghz with stock cooler, my game of preference TitanFall is struggling at the mo with 4GB of RAM. I will also move my PSU over as well.
Will that board and processor support a 500mhz increase on standard cooler ?
Both boards support my GTX650 1GB Card.
Is it worth me switching to the AMD setup, I have Acronis with Universal Restore and a NAS box so I can move over fairly easily without too much messing about - Just some added drivers to install during the restore process.
I know it seems like a long winded move just to use my full 8GB but I hate waste and I am not prepared to shell out for new parts just yet.
Advice please.

Turns out its a 5000+ Processor not a 4800+ even if both are running at 3ghz will it really not be worth getting the extra 4GB of ram ? I just want to play Titan fall for more than an hour without it bombing out with RAM errors.its still not worth it it .. you would be better with a whole system upgrade even a low level pentium g cpu would kill both those cpu now so it would be best to do a upgrade but if you cant then stick with the c2duo much better and a true dual core

Your best bet would be to find out and let us know the model number of the current Gigabyte Intel motherboard. I find it hard to believe that a motherboard that can support that series of Intel Core2Duo processor would only support 4GB of RAM. Also make sure you're running a 64-bit operating system. Without that, it's not going to matter what motherboard you choose.

no its not worth the swap because you will be losing performance with a slower less efficient cpu .. yes the more ram will be good but the cost of a slower cpu is not worth it at all .. stay with the core 2 duo and you will have a much better gaming performance trust me .. you can probably get another motherboard that supports more ram in the future
