How do i improve my recording ability?
So me and my friend decided to get into the hole youtube scene but when i record i get pretty lard fps drops, before i start recording i have good fps. I thought it was my HDD, it was full and i think it was pretty old so i recently bought a new 1Tb internal 7200rpm western digital blue series HDD but i still have the fps drop. Now i'm beginning to think it's my cpu, it's really old and outdated but i want confermation before i even think about a new one.

Specs;

OS - Windows 7
CPU - Intel Quad Core 2 Q8300
GPU - GeForce Nvidia gts 450
HDD - 640Gb (Sorry, don't know rpm or anything) and my 1Tb previously mentioned
Memory - 8Gb RAM

Thanks for any replies.

I agree to the CPU being dated now. The Core 2 Quads did not scale very well in most windows applications. One reason they get so hot is if your running a one thread task it will use all 4 cores anyway.
Though for now have you tried using shadowplay that uses the build in H264 encoder on Kepler GPUs. It does not look as crisp as DXtory but it as less of an impact on the framerate and offloads some of that work from the CPU.

Video recording is pretty CPU intensive. As pointed out your CPU is rather dated so it would take a bigger performance hit when playing and recording.

The best thing to do is to build a new PC, but don't trash your current PC. What you want to do is play games on your new PC; preferably with a core i5 CPU. Then stream the output to your current PC which will be doing the video recording. That way you do not suffer any performance hit no matter how slight when recording game play.

Your GPU is obsolete...

It could be the program you used for recording.
Your cpu is outdate as well as gpu. try get i5 cpu at least.
