I have seagate 1 TB hard drive which i've bought last 5 month ago. It went smoothly, and I havent encounter a single problem since then but recently, a few issue began to appear. One of those is that i cant rename it. Before I've encounter the problem, i've manage to rename it a few times but somehow, it rename it self back to "Local Disk (E
" and since then, I can't rename the external again. Another problem, would be the unstable transfer speed. Normally, my transfer speed is about 98 mbps to 100mbps but it began to slow down and sometimes unstable. It reach a peak rate of 85 mbps but will eventually go down to 2mbs and then, goes up again. though even with recently problems, I'm still able to use my hard drive but i want to know its a sign for a in-pending bigger problem.

1. Ensure you are running as administrator, try rename it in explorer.
If not working, try this:
1.Run cmd.
2.Type chkdsk ?: /r and press Enter (with space after the full colon)
3. The ? is the drive letter of the external drive.
This one is to change using autorun.inf:
1. Change you known file extensions in View to "show hidden files and folder". - purpose is to rename the extensions. http://www.ricksdailytips.com/view-hidden-files-and-fol...
2. Insert the USB drive that you want to rename and open.
3. Search for autorun.inf then delete.
4. Right click on an empty space, click/tap on New and Text Document, then rename this file autorun.inf and press Enter.
5. Open the autorun.inf file, then type the following (press enter once done):
[autorun]
label="type name you desire"
6. Unplug and plug in the USB drive to apply.
If still not happen and you wanna change only the name of the drive, use another pc and rename it.
