11GB's is not much free space. with a new machine the C: fills up quicker then you think even when you try to put most on a sperate HHD.

That is a shortcut for your files like documents defaulting to the HD ... otherwise it will default to C:\Documents

To send downloads specifically where you want, just tell your browser where to put stuff..... I use G:\Downloads

In FireFox .... Tools / Options / General Tab

11 Gb won't last long.... and is less than the 15% free space recommended.

Programs, regardless of where you install them tend to put stuff such as "Common Files" on C:\

Suggest you use Stephen Gould's CleanUp and every once and a while Windows Disk Cleanup as well

In your file manager, right click on documents (for example) and go to properties. Then click on the location tab and set it to where you want it to be. (this is windows 8, not 100% sure on previous versions).
