fx 8350 vs i5 4690k - is the extra £36 worth it?
So i'm stuck between getting an i5 4690k or an fx 8350

here's the pretty similar builds:

fx 8350 - http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/hWC9RB

i5 4690k - http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/PqC499

I won't be overclocking (maybe a tiny bit) the cpu coolers are just for keeping the system a bit cooler and quieter. I will however want to SLI the gtx 970's in the future, I'm not sure how good these motherboards will be for the SLI

I plan on playing games such as bf3/4(hard line), call of duty, dayz, minecraft,cs go and I also would like to be able to record the games whilst still getting a good frame rate whilst playing on the max settings and maybe do a bit of minecraft streaming with twitch.

anyway. Am I better spending the extra £36 and getting the i5 4690k? or am I better saving the £36 and going with the fx 8350?

opinions, ideas and suggestions all welcome. : )

do you want to overclock or not because you would be fine with the stock and really unless you want to do a serious OC then I wouldnt bother with water cooling

That's based on the assumption that games are going to use more threads soon, within the lifespan of the 8350. The thing is that AMD's single core performance is so far behind Intel that I think the 8350's single core performance will be completely obsolete by the time the majority of games start to utilize those extra cores, so it still won't be as good for gaming. The 8350 is already quite old and bordering on obsolescense.

I'm going for the i5, but should I wait until I have the money for a h80i or h100i and use the stock cooler until then? or get a hyper evo 212 and then save up for a h80i or h100i? also, will the h100i or h80i fit in a corsair 300r case?

Don't get a Kingston V300. Kingston changed some parts without telling anyone and new V300's don't reach advertised speeds, not even close. I'm speaking from experience, see my signature.

That Intel build is looking very good otherwise, I'd go with that one. Extremely solid build.

I'm just trying to think for the future as more games are starting to utilize more cores (bf4) and the amd would benefit from it and also, the fact that price for performance wise.

if your not going to be doing much overclocking, the fx 8 core isn't going to be dramatically faster than an i5. thing about the amd fx 8 core, you can get an 8320+mobo+cpu cooler for less than you can a basic i5+mobo. but the cpu cooler on the fx 8 core is so you can overclock and thats what makes the fx 8 core so valuable for a budget high thread app machine. if you dont overclock the fx 8 core, its value stays low compared to a basic i5. if this is mostly for gaming, just get a basic i5 like the 4460. as long as you are not doing highly complex professional rendering... rendering times in hours, not seconds, then the i5 is still going to feel pretty fast. who cares if it takes 1:45 minutes on the fx 8 core compared to the 2:25 minutes on the i5, go have a glass of water.

Wow thanks man, you've made me realise the difference : ), If I had the i5 and was rendering a video, I'd just watch a tv programme in the background of something, also. Instead of getting the HHD I thought of getting a 250gb instead, so I can have the OS + games on then I'll add the HHD after the build (once I save the money) what 250gb do you recommend for cheap? I've heard the samsung evo 250gb is a good choice
