Athlon X4 760k vs i5 4690k
I know that the i5 is a whole lot more powerful than the Athlon, but if they were paired with my ASUS 7770 2GDDR5, which would be more optimal for it? In other words, if I paired the 760k or the i5 with my GPU, which would be the most balanced?

The athlon would make more sense if you don't plan on upgrading. The i5 leaves you with an awesome GPU upgrade path. I wouldn't really put anything more powerful then an r9 270 or gtx 660 in a system with the athlon. The i5 on the other hand could easily run 2 980s in SLI or the r9 295x2.

The Athlon would make a more balanced system. Neither CPU would bottleneck the Gfx card.

The more balanced system overall would be with the 760k, an i5 would be considered 'overkill' with that card but bear in mind that with an i5 you're going to have a lot more options in terms of 'future proofing'.
