Why would a man need party music? Strippers usually bring there own.

Well, it looks like I got a nice side job (commercial too!) coming up, so maybe I'll get to spend a little money (not much, just a little). I really like the idea of the FM transmitter, so that the radio in the garage (also for the pool), the one upstairs, and the one downstairs can all play the same music... I can setup playlists and also stream some internet radio...

As for the CD player, I'd like to keep that idea as well, but it's going to be hard to limit it to 25 CD's... I'd like to do whole albums for the continuity, but I may have to make my own greatest hits CD's for some of the artists... But how do pick the greatest 80 minutes of Led Zeppelin, or the Beatles, or Metallica, or Smashing Pumpkins???

anyway, I'll hopefully ressurect this thread in a month or so and tell you all how happy I am...

But keep the ideas coming!!!

EDIT: Just noticed that Best Buy has:
Godsmack - Faceless
G&R - Appetite for Destruction
Queen - Greatest Hits
The Police - Every Breath You Take: The Classics
The Who - Who's Next
John Fogerty - The Long Road
The Killers - Hot Fuss
All American Rejects - All American Rejects
For $9.99 this week. I got the first two, so I think I'll pick up the next three...[/EDIT]

You know we all know the only CD you need is ABBA's Dancing Queen.

Sirius and XM both suck. Most of the stations play the same recycled playlist of music you can hear on the radio for free but with commercials and you still have to put up with some lame DJ. Their only benefit is if you're into talk, news or sports radio.

Free internet radio stations like ChronixRadio and the like are way better.

Um...no. You're quite wrong about the playlists, actually. In fact, you
couldn't be more wrong. Also, radio doesn't allow you to hit a button and
download the song into your receivers memory or use it like a Tivo to
pause, rewind, etc.

As for internet radio, I get shitty reception in the car...

Sit down, I'll call on you later.

its shouldnt have any commercials correct? or am i wrong about that?

Reply to mrface

XM I hear has started putting a few in select music channels, but they're in
trouble. Sirius doesn't. That's for music. Talk does have some. Stern used to
have 20min of commercials an hour on radio, on Sirius he has 3-5min/hr.

Mp3s, wma, ogg work great for your car. You can pause, rewind, etc...just like a Tivo.

Check out Sirius Octane, Buzzsaw, Alt Nation, & Hard Attack. Listen to em for a day each and you'll know exactly what I mean. You'll either get the same songs played over and over, or the same artists just different songs played over and over.

I'll actually retract my statement about XM. We haven't had it for almost 2 years. It's possible it's gotten better.

Same artist and same song is a huge difference. Buzzsaw is cool cuz it'll go
from Led Zepplin to Iron Maiden. To compare Sirius, or XM to regular radio is crazy.
I subscribe to Sirius, and get XM through Directv.

MP3's and such are a pain in the ass compared to grabbing the unit and going
from home to car to worktruck.

For roughly $3/week, to me it's a no brainer.

And right back to Led Zepplin.

No...it's not. One you don't pay for but get commercials. The other you do pay for and don't get commercials (usually). Everything else is the same.

As opposed to grabbing a CD with a couple hundred songs on it and going from home to car to worktruck.

Blanks CDs are cheap these days and quality internet radio can be found for free and there are various ways to stream it throughout your house for about the same cost as the Sirius unit. Indeed your neighborhood if you wish.

However, if you like it and it works for you then fine but there are alternatives and you should give them a try.

Reply to Anoobis

Mind you, those are your opinions. Same song and same artist is a huge
difference. I tune into a certain channel to hear them, just not Welcome To The
Jungle every 30min.

To be honest, I got Sirius mostly for Stern. That's what I listen to most of the
day. Although, I'm ashamed to admit, I have started listening to 128 NASCAR
in the afternoons. When I hear the guy say, "Let's go to Lucy in Kentucky."
It's nearly certain I'm about to laugh my ass off.

I have my collection of MP3's and sites I stream from, and do enjoy, I only
offered Sirius/XM as another option. Now fuck off.

It is, but too much of either can be a problem. I don't want to hear LZ every 30 minutes, as it will get old. But 15 or 20 different LZ songs a day (as in 24 hours, not an 8 hour work day)? Sure!

65 different types of music channels, you can jump around. But any format of
music where people can call/email requests you're going to run into that. My
only point was it's no where near as bad as regular radio.

As for Stern, he gets a bad rap. Sometimes the sex stuff gets old, but I do think
he gives the best interviews you'll find. You actually learn something about the
guest instead of the usual, "Was shooting this film difficult?" Today, View, Oprah
type crap.

How unsurprising, you're a Stern listener.

Eat shit and die.

What happened to your beloved Rod Stewart?

Kind of surprised that he didn't make your list, mate.

Reply to BomberBill

I also notice he'd missed his Tom Robinson Band collection..

Reply to audiovoodoo

ABL's a hard-arse so I wont cross him too much; but fock yeah! Where is that band?

I cried laughter when he said he was off to Rod Stewart. I simply could not picture him going to that kind of concert.

Reply to BomberBill

I have a mate who drive like a maniac when he puts on Neil Diamond but drives like a funeral director if I put on some Chemical brothers or the like.. We had a driving challenge on some racing game in a bar and he insisted that he was allowed to turn of the music and he just sat there singing Hotel California and kicking our asses. People are strange... And yes that does include myself..

Reply to audiovoodoo

I have an image of him buffing up his blonde highlights..... :(
