i will (if i remember+have time) tell you about I get on overclocking with my E6600+gigabyte ds4+zalman 7700alcu. And although every chip is different, try and shed some light on whether it is the motherboard that is limiting you overclock or the processor itself. :)

getting it all back toninght :D

The E6600 needs a BIG boost in volts to take it from 3.33Ghz to 3.6Ghz. I mean, alot, so it increases idle temps by about 10-15C.

The P5W DH Deluxe has serious limitations on the MCH voltages, and even the FSB voltage. The higher you OC, the higher these have to go. They eventually max out, and I dont even know how hot they are running. Really dangerous stuff (not even a temp diode on the northbridge).

Bottom line, the combo stinks. Again, not bad, but not the best bang for your buck.

The incremental benefit of burning your system to the max, is not worth that extra .3ghz. That was my goal, 3.6Ghz, so I am dissapointed I missed it. Oh well - next time will be behind curve, instead of reading Anandtech article and jumping in!

PS. The other reason I am pissed, is because I went and got DDR800, follwing the advise of that article. I cant even use the full Mhz because of the FSB limitations, and the mobo. The other reason this mobo stinks is because of the mem divider issue. If you have anything other than 1:1, it bombs after a while and isnt stable. So now I am running at 740Mhz, (370FSB), not even at stock 800Mhz, and not even allowing me to OC my RAM!

ARRRGHHHHHHH!

I'm pretty sure the issue is more with the motherboard than anything else..

I think a ~40% is an excellent over clock on air cooling. And I don't know what is your exact usage for this PC but I really doubt the extra 300mhz will help you in anything else then 3D mark and some video encoding.

Have you tried tightening the timing on your ram? Under clock DDR800 might allow for something a little tighter so that won't be a total waste.

I think you should be happy, but I think this P5WDH wasn't the best choice. Why not try to sell it and get a P5B-DX or a Abit DS3, that board is so expensive, even used you might break even and get more OCing.

Im still 1month+ away from my purchase but I'll tell you about my 6600 experience then...

From reading what you have been talking about i see that your problem are the temps and that is it.I have same setup up like you just a weaker graphic card and a diffrenct cpu cooler.I had very similar or mabye exact problem the temps i could get 3.2 ghz because my temps were like 66 or more. And for it just was that i reseated the heatsink and that is it.I am getting like 30 idle now and 40 load with a big overclock like 3.35 ghz.'

I have the zalmna s9500 cooler. You should consider buying some new cooler like the new 9700.Or man just Rma your cpu and motherboard.Because with that board and that cpu you can go over 4 ghz.

well i assembled all of it and im happy :D :D :D

idle temps around 30-35c, with core temp, easytune shows around a 10c drop compared to core tep, as wusy says, no temperature reading programs are completely accurate :P

The gigabyte 965p-ds4 F2 BIOS allows the downward changing of multiplier to x6 min. The F6 IOS (what i'm using now) also allows the changing of multiplier downwwards to x6.

Though with both of these BIOSes you cannot raise the multiplier!! (awww...oh well I'm happy anyway, not enough money for a x6800....or kentsfield...yet...)

I'm off now, to play with my new toy  :) :D :P

hahhahaha

One thing you need to remember is that every motherboard and CPU is different! Just because someone was able to get to 3.6 GHz with their E6600 doesn't mean that your setup can to.

The thing I really don't understand is this... the CPU just came out a few months ago... over kills anything AMD has ( no offense to AMD fanboys out there), yet people feel that they still need to overclock it. WTF?! Do you people realize, that when you overclock (only applies if you raise voltages, and temps increase) you're killing the CPUs lifespan? I know some people have the money to easily replace it, but others don't. For you FishBoi, I guess you have money to burn, but seriously... do you really have any apps that are bottlenecked by your CPU?! Secondly, just so you don't feel bad, my CPU won't boot at 400 * 9 either, but I can boot it at 385 * 9 @ 1.4V easily. However, I believe the reason why is because I have a water cooling system (just ordered Ninja Rev B. Should be here tomorrow) and I don't think the components around the CPU are getting adequate cooling, hence, bad overclocking. Not to mention, I have the radiator attached to the front of the case, therefore, blowing warm air into the case and adding to my nice ATI X1900XTs heat (have accelero x2 on it) Making my mobo temps hit 60C when intense gaming. I've installed 2 40 mm fans ( 1 on sb and 1 on nb ) as well as added the fan that ASUS packaged and nada! I have a P180B case as well. As others have said, try reseating your CPU cooler and see if it helps. While you're at it, go ahead and replace the gunk on the northbridge and southbride.

Lastly... no offense, but you seem to be an author of numerous "P5W DH + C2D" posts that I've ever seen!!! LOL!

BE HAPPY WITH WHAT YOU GOT! Some people are less fortunate! LOL!

Good luck with your overclocking! :P

acually that is not true. The core 2 duos overclock great and your not decreasing life so much.Because you break the warranty when your vcore hits more then 1.55
