Hot tamales... thats a nice case mod... too bad I don't have that much time nor willpower to care enough, but I'm impressed... although Ninja's money problems I laff at
You make the girl buy you stuff, not the other way around. Thats the way to roll.
Anyways, 680i supposedly has some problems, so I'm going to hold off until more info comes out:

Tomorrow reviews come out... we excited yet?
Don't laugh at my pain....
How does one woman blow thru $800 in 3hrs? Its just not natural...
=)
Not natural for a man, perfectly feasible for a girl 8)
lol I cant talk... newegg=3k in about 3 minutes
But the stuff we buy is useful. All she bought was just... wait.. what the f*ck did she buy anyway? *Goes to look for bill*
Hope you at least shopped at Victoria secret 8)
Yes. Thats on the bill.. wait a minute, she spent waaay more than $800. I'm too ashamed to even say how much she did.
Gawd Damnit... I have to start paying attention more when we go out...
@Ninja
LOL, at least she is happy.
[Off topic]
Here is a shoutout to a computer junkie friend of mine who is most likely reading this thread and reading it often: Sup Ernest....you know who I am.
UGH, anyways...back to the topic at hand *cracks the whip*
"Ernest goes to Toms"... has a nice ring to it, that it does.
Are you kidding? I was just going to post that until I scrolled down? WTF Ninja, are you really behind me and around me and all that ninja stuff?
If thats a peanut butter and marshmallow sandwich on your desk, then yes, yes I am.
Dangit! Do I have to crack the whip even harder? *Cracks the whip*
Alright already you bastard. Tomorrows is Dec 15.
Thank you...much better.
I'm hoping to be one of the lucky 30 to get my hands on it sometime tomorrow, but....*sigh*...I can wait till Jan10th if I fail to get one.
I have the patience to wait...unlike Dario *snicker snicker*
Ah, the poor bastard will have to wait yet still. I'm not going to stay up just to buy it though. I've got other things to worry about.
There is some chances that they get delayed a week or so :? , I guess we'll see tomorrow!
I am so dissapointed in RD600 that I dont even care for this horrible thread jacking...
Meh. Cheer up. It'll get better. Maybe.
Let's see I'll be up playing beer pong so hitting up a computer around midnight.... not a problem. Gotta love not having school for 3 weeks.... but then I get to start an internship working 90 hour weeks 8O
-Ninja
When was the last time a girl bought something useful that wasn't from victoria secret?
Side note:
Even if the RD600 isn't the end all be all of C2D OC'ing I feel it will be a solid board and I am all for sticking with DFI . I fried my last SLI board so I think I will stick with the ATI chipset (Popped a capacitor.... actually how I "met" wusy... anyways).
Ridiculous
>$400 for a mobo, F that crap!
| Quote : Meh. Cheer up. It'll get better. Maybe. |
Not for RD600 it wont... It simply lacks of the 1600Mhz strap...
The second Tony mentioned that the clockgen wouldnt go any higher, it was all over. Treat this more like a 975X (a very well engineered one) than a P965 when it comes to internal latencies and FSB.
For all the ones that are awake waiting for to magically pop out in newegg, go to bed... its not going to touch american shores for a few days.
Anandtech will have a preview of the board in 36hrs tops, and a full review in a week.
Meh... I have until January to buy anyways...
Guess if someone wants Xfire they're stuck with what... 965? Meh, I guess worse comes to worse, I'll get an RD600 for XFire if the R600 is much better than the G80, just because the gfx is more important than my need to burn my cpu into a crisp...
Other way around, I wouldn't mind a 680i at all, maybe the DFI one...
Yeah, Jan. looks to be a good month.
I am probably just going to get 1 R600/G80/1. Last time I went SLI it really wasn't worth it at all. The only reason I can see going SLI is if I get a 30" monitor, i.e. Apple or I think Dell has one too.
Yeah to bad I can't wait because Jan will be golden for motherboards. I still think that Abit 680i could have some potential not to mention the DFI's one. Other then that the Commando might be cool and the Asus RD600 might be worth looking at, I seriously doubt they can top DFI's but they might make it a little more gamer oriented then pure tweaker which might appeal to some.
Like someone we know I say meh, I'm pretty sure my 8800GTX/ P5N32-E will be enough for me as I am shooting for 400-450FSB and will be playing at 1600X1050.

| Quote : The preview will be up very late tomorrow (today now) or early Saturday morning. The full review is next week after I finally complete the P965 saga. I will try to answer all of the major points in the preview article. I am going for less words, more numbers. DFI is suppose to confirm shipment numbers tomorrow. I know the boards bound for the US should arrive very shortly |
Want to take a wild guess on who is bingo13?
With the prices and overclocks how they are right, if you take SLI/CF out of the equation, P965 is still the best choice by far.
Yeah I know he's the anandtech guy, kinda forgot his name though
Yeah, P965 is still probably the best, 680i is near similar, but I guess since the 965 chipset has been out longer mobo manufactueres are more used to it and can give it better support. In the long run, who knows whether 680i or 965 will have better top-end OC performance.
Yeah I agree, I think I want to give the P5N32-E a run, mainly because I am curious, and I figure the physic equation might play a good role down the road.
I am not 100% sure it's worth the hassle though. I really like the P5N32-E layout too. Anyhow I am not 100% set.
The 680i might prove to be more of an hassle then anything else. :?
Might flip a coin.
Which 965 are you getting dario?
P5b Dlx or giga DQ6?
P5B Deluxe, the voltages on DQ6 were alluring but the NB clockgen is weaker. If all the upcoming boards suck ill vdroop and vdimm mod it and be happy for life
P5N32-E SLI is actually doing pretty good, ~525Mhz FSB if you tweek a little. With BIOS revisions (because its still got potential to be unlocked) it just might hit 600Mhz.
| Quote : Yeah I know he's the anandtech guy, kinda forgot his name though |
Gary Key, Anandtech's Editor
Cool I'll remember the name, I knew he was with anand, since I followed a few threads... At least it's not anand himself hehe.
Anyway about the P5N32E, the problem is that the 'proper' tweak are not widely known and there's more then one issue with SATA corruption and so on. So I am tempted to give it a shot but on the other hand the P5B-Dlx is clearly solid and mature and not to mention a good 60$ cheaper for me.
I still might take the plunge and review it for you 8)
| Quote : the problem is that the 'proper' tweak are not widely known |
The you dig into memory subtimings and create your own 8)
There are always work arounds any type of feature problem and Asus boards becoe very mature as BIOS revisions pop up. If it wasnt for the vcore (which is also solveable) this would be exactly a Striker.
Oh, and I saw for $260 somewhere in the net last night *hint*
BTW, that is Canadian dollar, so with conversion, It's still overpriced!
I think I will get it around 270Can, so it's all good. And yeah I do trust Asus team a lot.
I wonder how bad the Vdroop and under voltage will affect OC below 4ghz...
One more question for your dario, do you follow the manufacturing week of the CPU? I will probably have 10 or so box to choose from, might as well try to pickup a better one =)
L628 seams to be one of the best...
Grab a Xeon to ensure those ~500Mhz overclock. But if you dont have access to them then I would say 29B and 30 have been the best batches so far.
Cool really doubt I will have access to a Xeon, I actually worked/bartered for this CPU and he did not grab any Xeon even though I advised him to, he might get some at some point. We'll see thanks for the *hint*
Morning ladies!
| Quote : Some basic numbers as we finish up the short preview for release later today. In-depth review on Tuesday.
|
So yeah, pretty much what has been said. Not so fats in Spi, fast in 3d.
With all these 3 chipset so tightly grouped in performance, I think I/others need to make a reality check and find out what feature are the most important for them. On Tuesday we should have a few answers like:
What about Raid performance, what about the true Async and then do I really want SLI/Xfire down the road and so on.
One of the important question that I would like to see answered is how do the physic portion of ATI/nVidia/Aegia stack up. That could be really a selling point for Xfire/SLI at some point. Also I didn't bother looking up but I'd be curious which developer will be going with aegia and which one is going for Havoc.
PFF old news which I had stated before (does anyone reads my posts anymore?
)

Now that is the missing piece in the puzzle, but we wont know until about a week from now.
You say something?
Yeah I kinda skip over your non-memory related post
:x
On the subject of these 3000 series Xeons people keep going on about....
Ninjas results were very interesting reading, and did seem to indicate that his Xeon 3060 was from a higher bin, or maybe just by chance a better die, than his e6600....
It would have been very interesting to see his x6800 stepped down to a x9 multiplier to "emulate" and e6600 however, just to see if this supposedly top end CPU could then "beat" the 3060.
At 2.93GHz it should be expected to use more power and generate more heat, tests at 2.4GHz would allow us to compare them on a like for like basis and see which is likely to have the higher max clock (FSB limitations on the 3060 not withstanding)
Thanks for the idea. I'll get on that.
darkstar782 have you been reading the thread I have been defending? LOL
I'm already there.
Good news ladies....
The PREVIEW is in....here
The review is next week.
I just started reading it right before you posted 8O
post reading:
What the devil is with the 680i consuming 366w? I don't want to have to TEC cool the mobo itself... geez! lol.
Here is a DFI RD600 tweaking guide that Tony has put together for people that plan on getting one.
Tweaking guide
Man, 3lf... that thread was ridiculous.

Awesome! It seems like Tony will be as fond of RD600 as he is of P5B dlx. Sadly RD600 doesnt nearly have the FSB potential, but neither is Tony recognized for a FSB freak.
