Yet another teaser:
These pictures are from a ATi reference board, but isnt that "asynch." and "Link Width 16x" simply inspiring??
Stock @ 15k+? Droolz.

Have they given us a definite release date? Or do we still have to rely on teasers?
Wow Ninja. Nice quote. A bit long...
But it teased me again. *Trembles. You big tease you. LOL Eh, it's ok I guess. I get to droolz again.
That was the point. Ask a question about teasers while reinforcing the tease.
On a kind of off topic note...
Its really annoying me that ATi and nVidia both put in artificial driver restrictions to lock Xfire/SLi into their respective motherboards.
Its anti-competitive imho, ATi and nVidia should be required by law to allow their multi-GPU systems to run on Intel, ATi, or nVidia chipset mobos. After all it is supposed to be a free market, and if, for example, R600 turns out to be 3x as fast as G80 and RD600 turns out to have a 270MHz max FSB and dire memory performance compared to nForce 680i, I should be able to choose each on its own merits and go R600+nForce680i
(I know by the way that R600 WONT be 3* the speed of G80 and that RD600 will hit way more than 270MHz before you all start correcting me)
If I want to run R600 Xfire on an nForce 680i, I should be able to. If I want to run G80 SLi on an RD600, I should be able to.
Basically this mobo looks sexy but if I buy a G80 then this cuts off my SLi upgrade path
/rant
Nice rant. No objections to that here. A little regulation could go a long way. Then again, when we start letting the government regulate....
Me personally, even though I could afford it, see Crossfire, SLI and what ever else they way try as simply a gimmick. Its totally out of the price to performance mindset that we each should employ. All you get from SLI anyways is just diminishing returns.
'sides, there should be some third party drivers that work around that issue.
Thanks go to rwaritsdario for these pics, not me:

Well it's an elbow-out market. They're all trying to do the other in. But ultimately you're right, the consumers get shafted. Those of us who are STUPID enough to constantly pay top dollar for the best just get suckered. Computer companies are known for selling us stuff we can't upgrade. (Just look at Dell) They want us to purchase entirely new systems. It's why M$ has made billions on operating systems they never really complete. It's really nothing new and I'm not shocked. But it does piss me off. However, consumers will never unionize and protest, and government can't oversee ethics. It's like the Sarbanes-Oxley act, or Affirmative Action. It's a nice thought. M$ gets sued...and continues their monopoly. Google comes into play and violates all of our privacies. BestBuy profiles and tells their sales people to approach young white rich looking men. "Business ethics" is a sweet idea they teach in college, but it doesn't happen. Companies like Mattel and Ben and Jerry's get applauded for environmental and worldwide ethics policies, but ultimately go under and sell out to companies that make toys and icecream cheaper. Yes, the world revolves around $. I love the noble idea of being different and trying to change the world, but human beings are basically parasites that destroy everything in their path anyway, with little regard to each other and the future. Sorry, I guess I'm a realist who has come to terms with the truth about life. :-P
Afternoon 3lf.
@RyanMicah
Meh.
The only thing you should see in those pictures is the really hot NB heatsink. As you can tell, the rest of the board has a different layout, but the one Ive posted will be the retail one, this has been confirmed.
PFFF 8)
You and your "meh's"
BTW, I decided to list my sys specs in my sig, although my Raptor X is in my LAN party system (not enough room to list all my crap) and the other raptor is in my closet for now. I'm using dual 7200rpm 8mb 160gig Caviars in this system right now, they'll be going in my HTPC later on.
@Ninja
Good afternoon 2 u 2
@RyanMicah

I really hope it's not the one in the main pic...i don't like the layout as much, nor do I like the aluminum sinks....I want mine all copper. I'll still get the board, but if it has the cheap nb/sb heatsinks like the one in the original post...I going to have to buy myself a jing ting
And what site "confirmed" that?

I was about to slap you silly, not correct you.
My solution? Learn C++ and make your own forceware drivers.

Oww, my head. :-P I learned Pascal and Visual Basic 2.0 in HS. Can I be done?
You can always raid Google for them, but itll take some time for good hacked drivers for G80 and R600 to appear.
Hey dario, what do you think of omega drivers..they arent just for ATI anymore.
I like em
Meh. Write your own you lazy bastards. [jk]
I know there are hacked SLi drivers about (although I'm not aware of hacked Xfire ones), but they are 89.xx ones and I don't want to be stuck with old drivers forever, plus these don't support G80 anyway
The mobo does look really cool. Not so cool that I'm not getting my G80 next week, but cool enough that I'll hold off on my 680i until after R600's release in case I decide to upgrade from G80 to R600
Is it just me or do I spy a digital VRM?
Now that is quite a prospect.

Damn... that looks sexy...

A very reliable american site plus a couple of those chinese ones im fond of reading.
The drivers seem fair, couldnt speak tough since Ive never tried them or heard of anyone that does.
Quit posting that pic, it isn't nice and it isn't fair. :-P
| Quote : Quit posting that pic, it isn't nice and it isn't fair. |
I already went to kinkos and made a supersize picture of that mobo to put it in the wall of my room

5-phase in the retail board.
Ok, now that's a little TOO hardcore. I could see making a screensaver, or using at as a wallpaper, or putting it on a Christmas card...
but hanging it on your wall? Absurd.
Almost... fanboyish... naah.
absurd? I think having all the components sitting here collecting dust because they havent released the rd600 is absurd. Do you know how it feels to wake up in the morning and check your email to see if zzf has auto notified the release of the rd600?
For some reason i wanna get a intel mobo. the new bad axe2 ee if you have too much time to think, you start thinking of other options.
From what I tested of the Bad Axe I, not if you want to overclock. Its stable to a fault, but has some... surprises in store for the user.
Early adopters are almost as bad as fanboys. Ooohhh! But yeah, I want one too. :-P
Ninja has the money to be an early adopter... nothing wrong with that...
If I ever went SLI or XFire, it would be one card now, one a year later, which should give plenty of time for the drivers (hacked or not) to appear, hopefully...
It wasn't in reply to Ninja...and Ninja is 18...he either has money or an education...which means his money is most likely temporary or comes from parental unit(s). :-P You never though, and I'm not ruling it out...there are 18 yr old millionaires. My ex's dad was a millionaire and never even graduated from HS. Had a tool and die company. But Ninja being a self-made man without a good start at a young age is relatively unlikely. You're trying to pick a fight right? This was a nice friendly thread. Please don't.
Money's in the bank, a trust and my inheritance. Each of the 5 siblings has money tied up in different things. I've got 5000 shares in Google.
Meh.
ugh, Thats ninjas line.
Erhmm, that meh is an exclusive line. Find your own.

Ya think? I was talking to him...that's why I used it...to give him a taste of his own med.
I installed my Antozone AS-N1000 cooler on my 6150gpu NForce430 NB. Went from around 60 to about 40. Like an 20C or so degree drop in temps. How you like THEM apples? System stability already feels better. Crappy thing is I had a transistor in the way, the arm bracket was hitting it, it has a hole that I didn't need. So I took a pliers and bent the bracket up a bit. Beats filing/cutting it off. Now I can hopefully bend it back should I ever want to. 20 degrees C! $40 cooler though. :-(
| Quote : Looks like their won't be any PS/2 connections... about time! |
LOL, I don't think they're stupid enough to ditch the PS/2 ports after what happened to Abit when they tried it.
What happened to Abit? I believe we shouldn't let old stuff like that, which no one in their right mind uses anymore, waste room and money on my mobo =(
Thousands of people wanted a legacy-free board, Abit tried to make two of them, and thousands of people bought them. Unfortunately, a company as large as Abit WAS needs to sell HUNDREDS of thousands of boards, and only the very small percentage of hardcore fanatics would buy a board without PS/2 port.
The board will have PS/2, the Abit lesson was widespread throughout all the motherboard manufacturers lol
That's great, because if I were to spend $250 or more on a board, the last thing I'd want to do is spend $15 more on adapters
True. I guess they'll start cutting off PS/2 by having headers on the motherboard to PCI brackets, but they still come in handy
Tere are still plenty of people who still use PS/2 ports, I do for one as a mater of fact the mouse I use on my home computer (I am at work now) is around 8 years old and still works perfectly. Now serial or parallel ports I could do without I haven't use either in years, although my hardware lock that goes with my 3d Studio Max uses the serial printer port.

I'm a hardcore fanatic... I say we take a poll to see just what the percentage is... PS/2 is outdated. I don't think Dell even includes PS/2 mice with their new systems anymore do they? :-P Eh, well...they shouldn't. Maybe it's time to take the plunge and upgrade your mouse Crashman. :-D
USB uses the same amount of electricity as a PS/2 mouse, but the nice thing is you can add bells and whistles like LED lights, fans to cool your hand, etc. I also believe it's...faster response? Maybe what they need to do is drop USB and PS/2 and make everything firewire. One gold standard.
Add a $15 adapter and drop $10 off the price of your board = upgrade to USB for $5.
PS/2 ports were in my opinion totally useless until I actually ended up in a situation where I needed the connections but was without them. Parallel transfer technology will be coming back into vogue as long as they can speed it up and miniaturize the ports. Its still a much better design in my opinion.
I hear what you mean. :-P I suppose by now PS/2 ports are pretty cheap to put on a mobo, but it'd still be nice to have the extra room for say...an external sata port or external molex connection etc. I mean if it IS an enthusiast board...what's $60 for a solid USB gaming mouse anyway? If it's the best board available, people will still buy it.
But will it be enough to turn a profit?
I honestly don't think that many gamers don't have or aren't willing to buy a USB mouse when they spend around $300 on a board. If your decision to buy a top of the line board hinges on a legacy port then I guess maybe you should look at upgrading other key elements. If you're still using a serial port printer that uses hole-edged paper for instance...you might be a redneck. Or from a third world country.
BTW, anyone read this?
Doesn't the CIA already have that paper? :-P
