The way I figure it,I own a 3700+.Its only a single core, and eventually itll be obsolete. Not yet tho.Im not spending money on a cpu,Intel OR Amd til they both have new products out OR the time of usefullness(obsolete) [b]Passes.Doesnt make sense for me to upgrade to c2d yet.To me not worth the hit in the pocket book, cost versus performance.
As the article shows, at the very least, a 3500+ is required to properly feed a 7800GTX class card without severe CPU bottlenecking, so anything with similar performance like a 7900GT/GS or X1900XT will also have similar CPU speed requirements.
Of course, by overclocking a 3000+ to 2.6GHz or so, it will make most games (with the exception of the latest multithreaded titles) run very well.
I have an X2-4400 and if you just happen to have that wimpy 6600 Conroe I'll gladly do a swap... and even though you'll be getting the "faster" processor I'll do it for free. God I'm so nice!
In summary... please remove your head from the sand and accept reality.
Hmmmm, I read the first page, then decided the second page will be more of the same B.S., so I skipped down here...
Everyone knows games aren't CPU limited anyways, at least not yet. If you do a pure gaming build, and do nothing but game, and only care about gaming, then get the X2. Also, while you're at it, do yourself a favour and get a life too... the world does not revolve around gaming...
Now for the obligatory thread hijack, 2 day vacation... WOOT... FREE FROM WORK... FINALLY!!!
For all you people that think that the athlon x2 line is pathetic compared to conroe, well check this out

All x2 users: take pride in what you have and show proof that the newest thing isn't always the best!
According to the site, people actually won't see much benefit from x2 to conroe unless if they have been doing serious video encoding. I would like to hear people's personal experiences so I can make my decision on what system to build
Clock for clock, the Core 2 Duo is faster than the X2 4400+. Those results are likely false as even a 2.67GHz K8 would likely perform worse than a 2.4GHz Core 2.

What ever made them choose that ASUS P5W64 Pro motherboard to benchmark? It's certainly not the gaming equivalent of a DFI nForce 4 MB. Also more benchmark comparisons would have been useful.
Check out the THG CPU charts.
38 different benchmark comparisons available.

After reading the article, I am of the opinion that it is very slanted in the direction of AMD. Although the author claims to have no bias towards one or the other in this article he is clearly trying to paint the x2 4400 chip in a more positive light than the e6600. Then again, I tend to believe that there is no such thing as a completely neutral benchmark.
This type of comparison is like comparing two cars with different motors- like say one with a v6 against one with a v8. After modifying things like exhaust, intake, timing, etc... the v6 will eventually beat the *stock* v8. But modify the v8 in any way and the game is quickly over.
For the average user, meaning one with significantly less knowledge than anyone on these forums -- heck, let's say if you know enough to register for these forums you are better than an "average" user. Anyway, tangent aside -- for the average user most will never know nor care about the difference. They think in terms of - how long it takes to boot up - and -how long it takes to open MS Word or Outlook, etc - That's why even though people go back and forth on these forums about x2 and c2d while the biggest selling procs are Celerons and Semprons.
I don't really see any sense in why people feel like they have to justify the reasons why what they have is better than what others have. I am a bang for the buck person myself, having a x2 4800 desktop and a c2d laptop. They both get the job done just fine.
Interesting to see.Seems all the hype on c2d is well....just that,Hype.I also want the best performance for dollar when it comes to anything. So nice link neibour.
You're kidding right? Has the spirit of Shakirou possessed the Forumz?
I was wondering the same thing, dont worry though, i know a couple of priests that will do an exorcism for cheap, now, if it'll work or not is another story, his spirit is a strong one.
