Pick the one with the

highest contrast
highest bright
lowest response time
bigger resolution
... extra features (usb, mic port, sound port)

and of course, of good brand name like Acer, Samsung, Sony etc

'did you know that samsung makes dell's monitors? Because dell has excellent monitors that are samsung made for half the price of a regular samsung monitor
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna [...] u=320-4688
Problem is that the dell uses 1650*1080 instead of 1600*1200

Yes, I did know that, but... arent Dell the most expensive monitors on the market right now?

$1300 for that 24 inches one.

Reply to slim142

no, the 2407 is onl $600, the 2707 (27", you catch on the naming scheme quickly) is the $1300 one, samsung charges alomst $1000 for their 14"

Reply to I_Love_Tacos

there, I found the perfect monitor price:quality
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6824001225
Samsung makes the best monitors on the market with probably the exception of NEC (sony based company), so for only $350, this monitor is amazing for the 4:3 1600*1200 preffered for gaming and watching movies

hmm, looks good.
I'd like to have hdcp support but i don't die to!
I use my pc PRIMARY for gaming, so if i can't see protected content i say ''meh''!

Btw, thanks for the find. I wish i find some more good ones and compare them myself from the specifications and of course from people reviews.
I've seen models listed with 1000:1 contrast, outperformed by 700:1 ones so i'm not sure about how much can we trust the specs.
Well at least it's a good start! :D

I understand 27 should be pricey now, but $1300 is an abuse. Samsung is way too crazy.

Ill stick with Sceptre

i ordered the sceptre 20.1 inch monitor.
should have it tommorrow.
its 1680x1050.

at that res it will give my 68gt a work out

I would never trust TFTs in the past! I am a CRT lover! If i don't finaly make it to find a good 20" TFT, then i'll go with a 19" CRT and never look back for the next couple of years!

I hope i'll end up with a good 20" though! :D

how much was it (too lazy to go check)

why didnt you go for the 22?

are you thinking of gaming at 1680x1050 at max settings with that card?
please tell me no

Reply to slim142

why dont you like widescreens?

Im using a 19inches Viewsonic VX922 (yes, FIRST in the world to be 2ms screen) because I didnt want to go widescreen and thought this was the BEST screen.

Now I see, it was a great screen but not the best. doesnt have hdcp and kinda missing wished features.

Now, the only screen I have find with all the requirements I want is only widescreen so Ill have to give it a try and see how things with widescreen goes :)

Dont know about normal screens (or 4:3) but they do GOOD widescreens.

Im looking forward to get the Sceptre x24" Gamer which is coming out late march

and ill try the same settings that i have on my crt that is 10x7.

i plan on getting a new card in about 2 months or after the 86 series and r600 have been out for a while.

Thats a nice price ;) congrats

nphield, is not that we go for the cheapest, we go for the best value for the money. If I can get a 24" screen with 1000:1 contrast, 500 bright, 5ms refresh rate, HDCP, 2 HDMI ports, built in USB,mic, audio,DVI,VGA and for $500, why not?

I would end up paying Waaaaaaaaaaay more for a samsung or viewsonic monitor with all this features.

Plus, Sceptre is not a cheap brand. It has showed us how great they are. Just look at their product reviews.

i have nothing against samsung.

the sceptre was 20 inches and 16x10
most of the 19 inchers are 14x9
i want more res. as lcd,s arent as clear as crt,s.

Too lazy to rewrite my reasons so i'll just copy paste them from a pm between me and friend taco:

"Not to mention that i don't like the wide monitors.
I play games and i'm not willing to have my 200+ games having issues with wide resolutions!
Before you tell wide is the future and current games support it or that i can use patches for older games i say Bah. PC's have enough issues as is so i prefer to use the mainstream 4:3 format which is supported by all and by everything!!
Last thing is that i always play games ONLY with max settings and at least 2XAA+16XAF. I am really crazy about this and that's why i have over 40 games waiting patiently for my upgrade. In my 3.2 P4 with X850XT PE i don't even want to look in the game menu!
With demands like the above you understand that there isn't really hardware good enough to aim above 1600x1200. Yes that includes the 8800 in about 4 months from now.

With all that said, any thoughts in a good 1600x1200@4:3 TFT? "

oh yeah and I forgot to mention, the sceptre im waiting for has a 1920x1200 resolution.

which will become the standard SOON

Reply to slim142

samsung has the highest market share in LCD HDTV's it will only be a short while before they take over the LCD monitor segment.......

Reply to nphield

1920x1280=2,457,600
1680x1050=1,764,000

Given the numbers above and the fact that you are looking at packing pixels into a larger format screen like the 22" or 24" yeah it makes a difference.

Think of it this way:

1,764,000 pixels on a 20" screen or 1,764,000 pixels on a 24" screen?

Which would you rather have the same number of pixels on a much larger screen or a much larger number of pixels on a larger screen.

When you get to the larger scale screens (22" and 24" models are quite large) the difference in pixels are well appreciated.

Hope this helps..

i have played my 68gt on my 32inch hdtv which is at 19x12.
it played good, but my 68gt is getting a little long in the tooth.
i am eyeing one of those 8600 ultras.

have too wait and see.

Gateway 24 in FPD2485W $679 at BB. Ive had it for 2 months now, and Im still amazed by its size and how clear it is! 6ms 1920 x 1200 1000:1 contrast HDCP 1080p ready... Vista looks great along with everything else! I highly recomend if you can afford it!

Sirheck,

I really really really really want that 30" widescreen from Dell.

Resolution @ 2560x1600... Talk about stressing some video cards (notice the plural in cards :))

yeah i hear those dells and apples are the $hit.

my 32inch sony hdtv is a standard 4.3 but displays hd content in widescreen. and in widescreen it is @30inches.

hey, haven't seen you, in like, a day
Anyway, did you order the sceptre with the handy rebate on it? I have been drooling over that price for a while now, and I want to know how well the image is, because I have found a 22" acer with hdcp for only $300, and a real nice 4:3 1600*1200 samsung for a bit more at $350, and I want to know where mike's money's at

I project a 118" 1280x720P image on my wall :)

Gotta love it... I would really like to go to a 1080P projector but could not bring myself to buy that expensive of a projector.

720P looks really good though.

I would actually incorporate the 30" as my main monitor until I wanted to use the projector. Gaming at 118" is great.. This is one of the reasons I get so many folks to my Lan Parites.... Can you imagine 18, 30 something guys in "the cave" (my room above the garage) all playing COD2 and UT2k4?

i should get it shipped to me tomorrow at the shop.
i just hope it comes undamaged and works.

and if i get the rebate that will be even better.

when i get it hooked up ill see how my 68gt can handle 16x10
with the settings i want.

it says it (the monitor) can scale down to 12x10 and 10x7.
im not gonna do that i want 16x10

Those pics are before everything was finished... If ya look to the left of the second one you will see that my equipment closet was nothing more than a hole in the wall.

You can see the conduit stub out for my PJ in the first photo.

Each wall has an individual 30amp serivce and there are two separate 30 amp circuits routed to the equipment closet. There are 24 ports jacked into the walls at intervals up there too.. Gotta love it.

yeah it looks cool and with that wiring set up you can run
a good 5.1 or 7.1 surround set-up

The front half of the room is wired for DD 5.1 you can see the boxes on/near the first set of shelves. The divot in the middle of the screen area is for the center channel.

Each of those first shelves (you can see the ones for the rear surrounds in the first pic) is at 32.5" so that they are perfectly placed at ear level (mine of course) for the speakers I use. The upscaling DVD player, the Dish HD receiver and the Comp are all hooked up to the DD.

spent a lot of time designing the room for multiple use as a HT/Computer Gaming/Parlor Gaming room. I have not gotten the pool table yet. :)

no windows i see.

thats cool to.
my mom,s house has a window as big as her 110inch screen.
and it is right behind the screen, well about ten feet away.
so in the day time its useless.

Sorry OP,

Did not mean to hijack the thread so this is my last post about the room..

I actually have four windows in the room but you can not see them... If you look to the left and right of the pics you can kinda see the dormers/kickouts...

These are set as dormers both for exterior view and so no direct light could hit the screen.

Also I have light blocking shades on them for daytime viewing.

Again Sorry OP... Was trying to make a point... Sitting close to a larger screen like the 22" and 24" you will very much appreciate the greater resolution.

Reply to Ches111

I think the 6800 should do fine (you have sli right?, as we know that sli really is hype unless you have a high res), and too bad the monitor can't scale up to something like 2560*1600, now that would be some real gaming there

And Chess111, may comment you have a beautiful house, mine looked that way when we first had it made until the second day  But since I have a little sister, she damaged all the walls when she was younger, so take pride in the fact you can actually project an image on your wall without seeing tons of marker or pencil on it, as my sister did that to my wall 5 years ago when she was 2

Reply to I_Love_Tacos

yeah sorry to the op.

@ the op i do 90% of gaming uh well not on a bigscreen
its on a 17inch(soon to be) 20 inch or 20.1 what ever that means.

Reply to sirheck

it means the screen is 20.1 inches, don't you get it  They want to charge you $40 for that .1" 8O

no not anymore.

i put the other card in my other computer.
sli doesnt show any gain at 10x7. except for heat

i could turn up the game settings though.

but one 68gt at 10x7 i can turn them up anyway.

I just bought the ACER 24" for my Father-In-Law and it is very very nice.

1920x1280 res and a pretty quick G-G response time.

& Tacos thanks ;)

Reply to Ches111

That thing is comparable to the dell 2407, and is my monitor of choice not including the price, pcworld did a review on it and showed it had as good or better quality than the 2407, the only reason why it got 1 pick was because of the better tuning settings

Reply to I_Love_Tacos
- 0 +

That was the only problem I had with the Dell (mine included) is the in-ability to change menial settings while attached to the digital port (DVI).

I can not even adjust brightness (although it is set well) on my 20.1 widescreen. The ACER allows changes to be made on all inputs.

Reply to Ches111

That's a nice feature, I know the 2707 dell has even better settings, but it's at $1300, so a nice buy you have there

I gotta go to bed, 'night

Hey sirheck, please dont overload that 68gt, I feel sorry for it hehe

its time has come when we start talking about HD in 1680x1050 at max settings xD

Ches111, I want that screen too, but is freakin way too expensiveeeeeee!!!!!!!! still I know 2560x1600 is F*CKING CRAZY!

BTW, Congrats! Hope your Father-in-law enjoys that screen (sure he will ;) )

Looks like we have a Samsung-Fan in here... "nphield", samsung is not going anywhere with those prices ;)

Here is a question, for those of us that have really nice monitors that aren't HDCP compatible. Do you think there will be software to crack it? Since they are already coming out with the cracks for HD DVD and blue ray.
