well, there are devices for only $40 that detect the amount of light in the room currently and then change the monitor's settings to fit that level of brightness perfectly. I don't know if that will stop the bleeding, but it can make a very basic monitor look as good as a very expensive one.

Sorry son. Samsung, Sony, and Viewsonic don't make a 22-24 inch LCD w/ all the features you're looking for. But don't get sold on brand, many of the name brands use the exact same panels as the off brands. You might be able to find similar sized HDTV's w/ those requirements, but you'll pay a whole lot more for it.

I strongly suggest you consider this panel. It has everything you need and Sceptre has been around a looong time in displays. Longer than BenQ and Samsung.

If you really want BenQ, here's a good 24 incher with all the requirements you need.

Get the dell 2407fpw. $674. 24" 1920x1200 It uses a samsung panel and has dhcp.

we already agreed a while ago its probably the best monitor for the price, but his budget is $400-$450

That's gonna be hard to find. 22", maybe, but not worth the upgrade over a 19". Only 23 or 24 with the massive 1920*1200 resolutions would be worth the upgrade

Well I forgot to mention that, it supports up to 1920x1200. And NO is not very hard to find cuz as I mentioned before, Sceptre is about to release it.

Reply to slim142

if the shoe fits, then you get it, seems like this should be the monitor that boths fits your budget and the hdcp demands

Exactly, specially that HDMI port, I love that detail ;)

Why would a monitor need dhcp???

Why would a monitor need dhcp???

HDCP (High Definition Copy Protection) is a new method of encrypting the digital (DVI) signal between the origin of the signal (receiver) and the display device.

Microsoft intends to support HD DVD and video on all its current operating systems, including Windows Vista. MS is building support for HDCP into the operating system as part of its suite of DRM abilities called Output Content Protection Management (OCPM).

If you intend to install a Blu-Ray or HD DVD drive to watch movies in that format, then you will need HDCP. The same thing goes for HDTV.

Yep, unless the monitor will somehow using DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) to allow the PC to connect over the internet.

So now let's get into the various merits of HDCP... Or lack thereof.

I hope this all can be cracked. I realy hate that bullshit. I cant watch HCDP movie on my 22" trinitron just because its not "digital".

To hell with DRM, HDCP and other copyright shit that deters me.

Will they ever realize that no matter how hard they try, that there will be workarounds and cracks?

Thx, I will do enjoy it once I get it :)

For now, I cant afford to be giving free screens to everybody, but hey, maybe Ill win the lotto and I might be able to do so 8)

Croc, HDCP is something that you need to look for if you are planning to buy a screen. If it doesnt have HDCP, 3-words, DONT BUY IT!!!
I feel you, I also hate that my ViewSonic 19" 2ms screen doesnt support HDCP

Finally, I would like to dedicate a word to the creators of DRM and HDCP...

*****F*CKERS*****

Better now :D

Reply to slim142

then sell that to me, say, $50?

Reply to I_Love_Tacos

Sorry, Paid a lot for it when it just came out. It is also going to my brother so I cant accept your offer :(

Reply to slim142

dang

Oh well, I paid only $5 for my fullscreen 19" crt that I got from a garage sale and I see no point in upgrading it to an lcd unless I get a great price considering how little I paid for my monitor and how big it is. I'm hoping to get a massive 2407 someday so I can game with hdcp and 1920*1200 for perfrection, but first I need to upgrade my gfx card from a 6600gt :(

You will also need to buy a video card that supports HDCP to output Blu-Ray or HD DVD content to a HDCP compliant monitor or TV.

HDCP compliant video cards have recently been released, so there aren't too many of them yet.

True, any new videocard supports that though

btw, tacos, why the hell are u using a 6600? thats almost 3 years old!, please tell me that thing is not on your crosshair...

Reply to slim142

6600GT Very big difference :D

And yes its on my crosshair, I'm broke, if my old mobo didn't die on me, I would have upgraded that to a 8800gtx, but seeing as I had to spend 1k on replacing all the hardware like a new processor, ram and mobo, I can't afford it anymore

I think I will get the gts once the price drops to $300 though, who cares if the ram amount is a bit less, currently, there isn't much of a difference at all between 256megs and 512 megs for gfx cards, and it'll be a major improvement from my 6600GT :D

Reply to I_Love_Tacos

How ironic, right now Im using a 6600 (not GT) :?

dont say anything

Reply to slim142

Just thought it'd be kinda funny if I did that. And did you like my sig? Kinda mean, but it just says that know one can beat DaClan (I haven't gotten in yet, but ninja says I'm close)

Reply to I_Love_Tacos

what is all this daclan stuff? :?

Reply to slim142

DaClan is kinda a clan of people that have a lot of computer knowledge that do reviews of hardware and then pown n00bs at online play

Reply to I_Love_Tacos

Oh, I see, so you wanna be part of that clan. Well I really dont think that is much important. did you think of making your own? ;)

I was looking at getting the Dell UltraSharp 2407WFP Wide-Screen when i noticed the ConnectivityTechnology spec on the dell home page only list it as being cable. So i called Dell just to see if this monitor is really HDCP.....
And they said IT IS NOT HDCP... wtf???

Reply to syl

what??!!! The dell is supposedly the best hdpc monitor on the market for the price atm, I always thought it did support htpc, but there are two versions on dell's site, maybe one does and the other doesn't? Because one's cheaper than the other by a hundred or so

Reply to I_Love_Tacos

Yea, there is a 2405 modle, and then the 2407 which the the newer, faster and better model. But the dvi-d input on that monitor does not have HDCP.

yes, 3lfk1ng is, still getting to know him right now, but I'm pretty good friends with dario (whom has disappeared for a while now, his sig says "sorry I play wow now", so I have an idea where he is) whom is (was) my ram consultant and I learned almost everything I know ram based from him, and then you know ninja. There's also unnoficial members/friends like Jack that could be in it if he wanted to, but I don't think he really cares to much for having the sig and all, but he's seriously a genious, and so on and so forth

hey

I emailed Sceptre again, they said their 24" naga screen will be available on late march. So to put more pressure on them I told them, your answer is making me think of the competence (in this case Dell or Samsung) and they said they really had no idea when it was going to be release.

I dont need it right now, but I would like it to be out now so once I get the money buy it.

BTW, I also like the Dell screen, but I went to their page and is way toooooo expensive compared to others. Also, it doesnt have HDMI and now im hearing this stuff that it doesnt support HDCP? can somebody clarify me that.

Reply to slim142

I got one of these babies, it is very, very good. It fits the spec- but ASUS isnt in your brand list. Also don't know if it ships in the US yet?

At the mo, it is being run in DV with a 19" samsung 8ms.

Smokin ;)

Reply to Surferosa

That's a lot for a monitor though, e220 ex vat, but I know that acer and asus make top notch monitors for the price, and I really adore acer's 24" model that I don't think supports hdcp, but has amazing image quality comparable to dell's (which I hear samsung makes) and is cheap (relative to other screens of same size)

Reply to I_Love_Tacos

Hello,

I've been doing some research on 22-24" monitors lately, and had almost settled one of a few different models available at Newegg. But today I happened into CompUSA and I was very impressed with the picture quality on this monitor:

http://www.compusa.com/products/pr [...] ia_Monitor

Especially as compared to the similar products available at the store from Viewsonic, Gateway, Dell, etc. Anyone have any experience with this monitor or with Envision LCDs in general?

Reply to AeroB1033

I can't say I have had any experience with that brand, but for $10 more, I know this is an amazing monitor and it has hdcp support on it

Reply to I_Love_Tacos

Yes, I would go for that Acer too, has the same aspecs.

Remember that quality not only depends on the monitor, but on the videocard too.

Envision, heard of that brand but never heard of people actually using it here. Also, note that the Acer screen is out of stock and has some Excellent reviews.

Reply to slim142

yeah, that is something to point out, that acer goes out of stock as soon as it gets in, I have watched it for a while, that hast to mean either everyone wants a cheap hdcp monitor, or that it has great quality like other acer products

Reply to I_Love_Tacos

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll definitely look into the Acer.

Reply to AeroB1033

that would be a good choice, also ask slim about sceptre's 22", he was going to get one himself, and it seems nice

Reply to I_Love_Tacos

Nice topic!
I actually researching this myself! :)
The Sceptre one looks cool.
I want a 4:3 LCD though and really don't like widescreen! :?
The crappy net has very few if any 1600x1200 TFTs comparisons so i can only guess! :(

If anyone knows a good TFT with 1600x1200 res PLEASE drop a line!
Well sometimes even google is out of info! 8O

Reply to MikeGR7

You wont find 4:3 higher than 20" I think, and if there are... they are probably gone by now.

AeroB1033, did you check the Sceptre 22"? Is $30 extra (after rebates) but is definitely worth it. Just check what comes with it and by the way, has better aspecs than any other screen. Plusssssssssssssss has an HDMI port which you can use with any PS3, HD-DVD or BR-RAY player ;)

Reply to slim142

problem is slim, the sceptre isn't 4:3 like mike wanted, but here's a nice tv that you could pair up with a tv tuner that's 16:9 (simular thing, not quite the same) that would be amazing to game on
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6889154001
Not many people actually consider tv's, but what people forget is that it's far cheaper to get a massive tv with a tv tuner than to buy a massive monitor

Reply to I_Love_Tacos
- 0 +

Well that's what i want!

A 20" TFT with 1600x1200. Great for gaming with good old games and very nice res for it's size! I don't need any bigger cause i'm sitting barely one meter from the screen.

There are a lot 4:3 20" though. Which one? That's the freaking question that google can't answer!

Pick the one with the

highest contrast
highest bright
lowest response time
bigger resolution
... extra features (usb, mic port, sound port)

and of course, of good brand name like Acer, Samsung, Sony etc

EDIT: ALSO THAT SUPPORTS HDCP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Reply to slim142

I'd go with one that can utilize hdcp, as you are going to get a high end gfx card anyways, so it would be a waste not to, and I am pretty sure that the 1920*1200 resolution is going to become common for movies soon, as that's the new high def, but as you said, that would be a problem for current/older ones, so it's up to you to take a chance or not

Reply to I_Love_Tacos

YESSSSSSSSSS I FORGOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OF course, go for the one that has also HDCP ;)

thx taco i forgot that important one.

I should commit suicide now

'did you know that samsung makes dell's monitors? Because dell has excellent monitors that are samsung made for half the price of a regular samsung monitor
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna [...] u=320-4688
Problem is that the dell uses 1650*1080 instead of 1600*1200
