Intel answers rumors of Core 2 Quad price cut... sorta

Published on March 16, 2007

The Internet is abuzz with rumors of a massive price cut in Intel's Core 2 Quad processor later this year. According to HKEPC.com, the price of the 2.4 Ghz Core 2 Quad will plunge 70% from its current price of $851 to $266 in the third quarter. Such a massive price drop would make the quad-core chip cost less than what most dual-core chips are selling for now, but are the rumors true? Intel's Public Relations Manager Dan Snyder pretty much gave us the standard corporate answer. Read more

Yup, 14.47 right now, market cap 7.94B and just minutes to the closing bell. As I've said before, the cap equals the cost of one fab, the ATI purchase and a Starbucks Frappucino. Wall Street has basically said that AMD is worth less than nothing. Oh, and I'm sure that Baron really appreciated your stock update. NOT! 8O

No, he didn't like it. Must have been a delayed price as it looks like it recovered to close at 14.55. Though it has had a couple of late day rallies in price but they are pounding at the 14.50 mark pretty hard. If there isn't some good news shortly the floor drops out at 14.50 and bombs away

Conversation overheard one year ago today: "But honey, my stockbroker says that AMD at $40 is the best buy in the market? Why can't we mortgage the house?"

Yeah, it's gonna be ugly, no matter what happens. Exactly what reasons are there for Wall St. to reward AMD? None. No new big deals on the horizon, no new product to speak of, K10 still out there... somewhere, R600 still out there... somewhere...

As Motley Fool said last October: I wouldn't buy AMD with your money!

See what a little press does for the stock a favorable mention in the news and AMD shoots up .15. :)

Yeah ive made a few thousand off buying and selling Intel stock in the past few months (couldnt go wrong it just kept shooting up) You think this AMD's bottom ? or will it get cheaper ? (Just thinking it may actualy be a good time to pick up AMD stock but im not sure....)

At any rate a cheap C2D reeaaally makes my day since I do like them :)

I wouldn't buy yet. I don't see any kind of turnaround in margins or ASP until at least Q4 of this year. With every earnings miss, AMD stock is gonna go lower. I agree with the assessment of quite a few others that an $8 to $9 bottom is likely.

Sounds good to me. I was actualy thinking about buying a couple of weeks before the new chip comes out but thats a risk. I havent seen any early benchmarks to know if people will be buying it or not lol Its all good though I can keep buying and selling INTC untill then (usualy make about 400 on the .20 if it bounces that much in a day)

By the time they cut the check it will probably go to the stockholders of record at the time AMD went belly up.

Is the end of the Duopoly at hand? Who knows? All I know is that right now I'm looking at the ticker and AMD is at 14.45. If I was Hector, I'd be sacrificing some chickens right about now.

Why not virgins?
