i still have a athlon slot a 1gig anda mobo but im not even sure if it will be good enough for a file server since i cant use stupid large drives with out using crappy HD utills

hell if anyone has any working k6-2 cpus on the old asus p5-a boards i might be interested in buying one for a dos 6.22 win 3.11 comp to play some of my old games.

Heheh... I work as a freelance IT consultant, which I feel gives me the obligation of owning a bunch of PCs...

1: Brand new Q9450 OC'd to 4ghz, 8gb RAM, Vista 64 (Should have it working by the weekend I hope!)

2: P4 2.8Ghz, 1gb RAM, XP Pro SP3 (using it now to type this!)

3: P4 3.2Ghz, 1gb RAM, XP Pro SP3 (running as a server - I eventually plan to amalgamate #2 and #3 into one PC and sell the other.... we'll see!)

4: Dual Core 2ghz, 1GB RAM, WinXP Pro SP2 (PC I use for actual work.)

5: P3 550Mhz, 128mb RAM, Win2k Pro (Used to run Win2k server, but is now sitting as a dedicated Teamspeak chat server and minor tasks)

6: Dell Inspiron 8500, P4 ?Ghz, 512MB RAM WinXP Pro SP3(pretty decent laptop, useful for checking email, basic word processing while watching TV)

7: Toshiba Tecra A1 Laptop, P4 2.2Ghz, 512MB RAM, WinXP Pro SP2 (got it free from a client who had actually tossed it in the garbage!! Display recently died and am selling it on ebay for parts)

8: Pentium 166Mhz, 64MB RAM, Win98 (yeah, I know it's obsolete, but it was the best gaming rig ever at one point in time, and it can still play Fifa 98 really well!! Basically collecting dust now)

9: Mac Centris, (Liberated this from the office I used to work at because it had a SyQuest drive - 88mb per disk!!! Occasionally useful for playing Mac Risk or Net Trek)

10: HP iPAQ 210, Win Mobile 6, 256mb Memory (My favourite new toy, it has WiFi, games, and when I use it, it actually looks like I'm working!!)

11, 12, 13: 3 laptops that are currently collecting dust that I collected over the years. One is a Compaq Pentium II, one a Sony Viao that is totally fried, and a Dell Latitude that has some sort of motherboard issue - it's technically "under repair" but has been that way for about 3 years!!

I also have an original VIC-20 (broken), NES (works with like 60 games that I still play), SNES (missing adapter), N64 (works with 20 games I still play) and my brand new Nintendo GameCube with Mario Tennis!!!

EDIT: Hey, I forgot that I posted in this thread a year and a half ago :D I'll just post changes:

All machines are running Debian Linux 5.0 (Lenny/testing), amd64 in the new laptop and desktop, x86 in the old laptop.

1. Laptop: screen got fuzzy, PSU died, so I retired until a few weeks ago when I happened upon a PSU and AMD released the driver for my GPU that allows the TV-out to work SIX YEARS AFTER THE LAPTOP SHIPPED. Thank you AMD for cleaning up ATi's mess. Back on topic, the machine is a dedicated MythTV frontend.

2. Desktop:
- Doubled the RAM to 4 GB
- Swapped the Cooler Master case for an Antec Nine Hundred for better ventilation and more space, plus an HDD mount in the Cooler Master let go.
- Installed a PCIe serial port controller card to control my Motorola DCT-2244 cable box via serial cable (much better than a remote.)

3. New laptop: Gateway TB120, bought 7/2007
C2D U7500, 3 GB RAM, 12.1" touchscreen/digitizer, 80 GB 5400 rpm HDD

UNIX is user-friendly- it's just picky who its friends are.

DRM is slowly killing personal computing, one Sony rootkit and TPM chip at a time.
And yes, it can run Crysis.

Haha, I knew someone was gonna say something.
But the truth is I cant get any damn benchmarks to run on my Intel Q6600 computer, they flat out do not run, no idea why. They install fine, and everythings updated (checked a thousand times) and i double click the icon and hour glass shows up for a second and goes away, nothing ever happens.
Anyway so I cant compare benchmarks so i went off general performance feel to me, and seriously that Spider platform seems slightly faster. Those 3870s kick ass in games and the 9850BE with 790FX runs like god.
I guess I should FPS test a game, that would work, just never got around to it.
