-i can burn ISO's without downloading any programs
-no wrrys about F'd up DLL's or rootkits

This is true for the most part. While upgrading video cards is notoriously difficult and CPU upgrades are available but rarely used, I have to say that all the minor upgrades I've done to my PowerMac G3 - expanding the RAM to 640mb & adding a WLAN card - have worked just fine, using parts out of PCs that I've had. I was especially surprised by the WLAN card, which I bought off eBay for £8 and was worked seamlessly into OS X with no drivers required.
 
However PCI cards, hard disks and RAM aside, Macs aren't upgrade friendly.  
 
But we've surely all seen Anand's article on upgrading the Mac Pro to an octal-core workstation, so there's hope yet!

 
I'm not a programmer in any sense, but I've still been able to take advantage of these powerful features you mention multiple times. Having installed the free Dev tools from my OS X disc, I've been able to compile (with step by step help, of course) a number of 'homebrew' apps from various dark corners of the internet, such as Metasploit for checking my network's security.
 
While I haven't used this feature very much and am surely only scratching the surface of it, it's great that you can run compilers straight outta the terminal rather than having to use 3rd party software.
 

 
- Unquestionable, the software bundle is awesome! And the fact that you can get semi-pro versions of Final Cut and Logic to replace iMovie & Garage Band for so cheap is a really great thing too.
 
- I seriously love this feature as well, being able to double-click mount disc images is really useful, and of course burning ISOs from right out of the OS is cool.

- Here's one point at which I'm a bit sore, though. I use MS Office on all my Macs, and while it runs great on PowerPC CPUs, it's a little bit of a hog on my Intel Mac Mini. However, Microsoft are releasing a new universal version of Office Mac later on this year, so it's just a matter of time. Still, it's a shame such a major app for the Mac is still lagging behind and having to run through Rosetta.

Interesting... very interesting. Yeah, I'm not much of a Mac enthusiast, and I'm not too familiar with them (except for the fact that I prefer running photoshop on them) but overall I do find that they're quite flexible. I don't personally have one (Hmm... I think the pricetag of the MacPro might have something to do with it). Still, I did check out some of the included compilers and I find some of them a bit useless to me, only because I'm unfamiliar to the languages, but the ones I know of I find quite helpful. After all, I hate getting on my XP machine and having to dl compliers after I've already installed the OS.

Spot on. Look at the iPod ads; totally f*cking retarded (a dancing silhouette; WTF?) yet people still buy them.

Both of these devises are considered top end in the PC market.

If you also load and run XP, on a Mac, will it run better?

I like apple, but not as much as i did a while ago. The only thing that makes them different from a standard pc is cosmetically and mac os x (still better then windows IMO), they need design there own processors. That would be awesome. I liked apple back when i hadnt been born yet. Before John Sculley took over and screwed over the company, in the days of the apple ll, when apple was the freakin' KING of the computer industry.
 
Before i figured out there more to the pc then dell and hp i was the BaronMatrix of apple. A hardcore fanboy, i didnt talk to one of my friends for like 6 months because he got a pc.

Why do I hate apple?  I think the commercials are unfair and alot of them untrue!

LOL.  If women ruled the universe, Apple will reign supreme.  Just Kidding.  People are whoring at MACs because they simplify their computer with sleek and clean looks.  Just because they don't show BSOD doesn't mean they are 100% stable.   BSOD is window's way of "protecting" your hardware from operating any further at "unstable" hardware conditions.  I've used XP and I've never experienced BSODs.  Rock stable for the last 4 years.  
 
Try writing an OS that will run stable with a zillion different kind of configurations such as:  AMD/Intel Processors, Nvidia/Ati/Intel Graphic chips, DDRI/DDR2 at different clock rates, Difference northbridge/southbridge chipsets, SLI, Crossfire, etc, etc.  For the most part, Apple has control over hardware choices and they test it thoroughly to make sure it doesn't crash 99% of the time.   Try looking for a TV tuner, can't find much variety, if any?  Yeah, thought so...
 
I just can't justify paying $2,000 for a high-end Mac which doesn't have many games available.  I'm not a 3D graphics artist so I'm not concerned about running 3D modeling software.

Let me add this:
 
1) apple is closed i can not build an apple - since i build pc's for a living i would be unemployed
 
2) i started out as gamer - not pc builder - some how from building my own gaming rigs i got into building systems. apple has limited gaming appeal - the market for games is too small - apple has less then 4% of the market.
 
80% xp 14% other ms 3% apple 2% linux and all others - i believe this the market break down
 
Apple and AMD are very similar in that they keep the big guys honest - i mean com on MS waits and steals all their good ideas from apple!
 
apple stole the ipod from sony - sony was so dumb
 
next apple looks to get the cell phone - as an investment i think apple has a lot potential still.

Well, if you're a gamer and you're not interested in 3D modeling, then why would you even consider a Mac Pro? I mean... it's like an F1 driver saying they don't like a pickup truck because it's not fast or agile enough.

I dont own a apple , however i have used them at school(yes Im a 36 year old part time college student), and I love them.  I think they build a great computer and always have.   I dont really get into the ipod, I own a mini and a shuffle and was dissapointed, however sandisk 4gb e 260 is the best mp3 player hands down.

To be quiet honest i thought that apple computer and the commodore amiga would have been the dominant computers(wrong on both counts), both company had good operatings systems and powerful software.  The show babylon 5 was atually rendered with a network of amiga 2000 computers bak then.

If microsoft didnt piss all over apple by pretty much stealing mac os (which apple took from xerox, although xerox would never have done anything with it) apple would have been the dominate computer company.

I think we can all admit that windows sucked up until xp/2000.  I actually preferred DOS and only upgraded when i had to. apple has always  had a good operating system, i remember how in high school everyone tried to get into the macintosh class instead of pc(this is circa 1986). I bet there are still people who have windows ME machines waiting to shut down.

If Apple didn't steal the interface for the iPod from Creative then they wouldn't have had to pay them $100million, and they wouldn't have won so much praise from stupid tech journos who cater to the "fashion tech" crowd.
