You can have a little yellow artifacts, they will usually never show in games. That is a very good OC, and by increasing the PCIE frequency to 115MHz, I bet you can hit 700MHz.
The setting should be in the bios.
I have never heard of this before. Currently my 8800GTS is at 650 core, 1620 shader, and 1GHZ non effective ram.
By increasing my PCIe Frequency would it be possible to get something like 675 core and 1650-1700 shader? Also can I get a link on this cause I need to know why it does. I don't understand how it would be possible.
Nice guide, but how did you get the 169.21 drivers to work with riva tuner? Whenever I try to open it, it says drivers not detected, etc...and in the box below where it states my video card, it says no information available, and it doesn't display the hardware monitoring icon. Lower, it says forceware detected, but won't let me customize. I have a 8800 gts 512mb from xfx, rivatuner 2.06, 169.21 drivers, windows xp pro. Also, i recently formatted my hard drive, and this problem occurred before the format too.
Are you in XP or Vista? I could not get my 7900 to work with RivaTuner and Vista, but it works fine in RivaTuner and XP.
Xp pro, and it must be supported, because in the first picture in the original post, the video card is a 8800gts 512, and the drivers are 169.21. When I start it, it says forceware detected, but none of the modification settings appear.
Edit-If it helps, I have a q6600 and p35-ds3l

Go into Rivatuner.CFG and find the following:
G92 =
After the ='s should be some numbers, those are the product codes for the 8800 GT, following those numbers type " ,600h" and that should add 8800 GTS support with the G92.

@Everyone: You can substitute ATiTool for RivaTuner 95% of the time.
I personally prefer ATiTool over RivaTuner, as ATiTool seems to have better support/ stability. Then again, I do a BIOS mod any way (once I find a stable speed). Check out my 8400GS: http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/vxmx6/

I have tested this for myself and it has worked. Google "PCIe frequency" and you'll see many people getting the same results. As for why, I have not found out yet.

I have to GREATLY agree with you on running 3Dmark 06 to test for stability. Very good pointer to give people a much enjoyable gaming experience. Very good guide. All the info seems dead on.
Kudos
plese help .... i am new to computers and stuff i got an xfx geforce 8500GT 512mb graphic card . was really exited that i could play great games... 2 days back i downloaded the demo of nfs pro street when i set the video options to the highest potential the screen started to slow down ...... i have a system with core 2duo 2.2 Ghz 2Gb ram windows Xp home edition... and my monitor viewsonic . so is it my graphic that is the problem ? . if so would overclocking(dont know what the hell it is) do any good......
I've just recently decided to try my hand at overclocking and have been looking at info on the process. I found this thread and the guide looks pretty thorough, however, all the pictures that go along with it have been deleted from photobucket. Is there another place to see this guide with the pics?
All I can say is that is very well done guide. I am working on overclocking my 8800gts 640mb. It was very well explained and gave me a good insight into the basics of overclocking a GPU. I think my card comes already factory overclocked a bit: 576mhz core, 1350mhz shader, and 900mhz memory. So far I got up at like 620mhz core, 1400mhz shader, and 997mhz memory. I know its bit low for an overclock but I am new at this stuff and I dont want to push and take my time. I do like 5-6minute artifacts scan just to be safe.
I have a MSI R4830 T2D512-OC 7 I think it has a fixed fan speed(also fixed clockspeeds for 2D/3D), so I found these values for the maximum temperatures:
Core 49C, MEMIO 60C, DISPIO 48.5C and Shadercore 57C
I can increase the clocks to from 585/900 to 720/1050 within these limits.
But should I really be concerned about these temperatures since I cant set my fan speed any higher like the guide says I should.
well i have the GeFroce 8600GT and im not sure whether i should overclock it for a game called project torque, or test drive unlimited, but it would be good if it would run a lot faster insted of getting so much lag, and i couldnt be bothered buying the killer anti-lag graphics card when i could probably get a new one lol, anyway, how badly can overclocking also screw up my GPU?
Perhaps you didn't read the first line of the OP. It is only stickied because some of the information may still be useful to some people. The image links can't be fixed because the images no longer exist. I'm hoping someone will rewrite the guide at some point but after all this time it doesn't look like anyone is interested.
