Last message on previous page: I have a 8400GS that I have on a PC I built for a school project (the one that Im using most of the time now ). Its OCed to 700/500 using ATiTool. I get a 747 (SM2) and 643 (SM3) score on 3DMark.
Then you have the risk of a douche giving you a messed up card ....because then I wouldent be able to refund it would I?
Most people don't advertise on eBay to get rig of junk - simply things they no longer need. I have perfectly working eVGA 7800GT and am considering upgrading to an 8800GT/GTS. If and when I do I will try and sell the old one on eBay.
shadow, cool. Did you stop it or let it loop through to get the average? Did it average 40 fps at the end? if so you can crank those settings more.
What cpu you running with it? I may install the demo on this rig and see how it does. for fun. It's a near silent rig that sees no gaming, so not sure if I want to risk heating it up. A64 3700+, 1GB, Passive cooled 7600GS.

Hey are you doing this on stock heatsink? how hot does you 8400GS get? mine idles around 45C and the most I've seen at load was 62C.
@ OP: No offense, but through the years as a PC gamer, I've come to one conclusion: What's the point in buying the latest and greatest games if you have to run them at some pitiful resolution and graphics?
To be honest, I only buy games when my hardware can run them at a decent graphical detail and fps. Then again, I've been spoiled by what some new games like Gears of War look like - even at medium details....
What I'm trying to say is, next time, do some more homework and buy a decent GPU next time; you'll save yourself some cash and enjoy your games a lot more in the end...

I looped it to get the averages. Specs: E2180 @3.2Ghz (going to be replaced with a 8xxx CPU down the road) A cheap OCZ vanquisher that I got for $10 (took off the fan and put in a 120mm fan, Prime95 full load is @56C) P35-DS3L (one of the best OCing boards out there) 8400GS (going to be replaced once the dual GPUs come out) A cheap PSU (going to be replaced soon) 1GB RAM 320GB Seagate DVD Burner
cost me about $300 (including s&h and rebates) I built this as part of my science fair project(designing a new heatsink ) for school. I didn't want to mess with my higher end PCs. The load temps for the 8400GS is 50-55C with some AS5.
EDIT: The GPU was set at 660/500 NOT at 700/500 as previously stated. Sorry guys.
how are u getting 500mhz on the memory? my gs can only go as high as 440mhz with rivatuner. i get artifacts as soon as i get to 450.
i get 774(sm2) and 658(sm3) in 3dmark06 at 666/1620/440, i'd be getting more but my memory is definitely holding me back.

games definitely are better when they look good but sometimes making the game playable is the 1st priority and eye candy is only a plus. many casual gamers care about being able to play the game and dont really care about the graphics. a lot of people out there play games for fun with their dell's,hp's, and gateway's. i still play Warcraft 3 on low with my 5 yr old laptop and it looks like crap but after awhile the graphics doesnt really matter once i startplaying against other people. i had a friend who used to CS at low settings with his **** computer, but he was hella good at it.
Someone somewhere in here asked whether a 6600 is about the same as a 8400GS. Actually, a 6600GT will sometimes outperform even an 8500GT, and will almost always outperform an 8400GS (6600GT is 128 bit and uses GDDR3 memory; 8400GS is 64-bit and usually has GDDR2 memory).
Just shows you how little improvement there is in the low-end 8xxx series. The 8500GT (highest low-end) is on par with mid-range from 2 generations ago...
I own a 8400GS and I never bought it for a gaming card. It was an "upgrade" from an ATI X300. The only reason I bought it was due to better Nvidia support for Linux. Will I run Crysis with it? I'm better off playing Crysis on an Xbox 360 so that way it's at least playable.
PS: Never trust Youtube or even Newegg for honest benchmarks.
