Seems only better than Crossfire for 3870 x 2 coz of the new feature Crossfire X. I found catalyst 8.3 is even poorer performance for my 3870 in Windows xp system while there was with satified performance when use Catalyst 8.2.

Don't use Cat 8.3 in XP.

I agree. The driver was mainly for features that apply to Vista.

Hoping for a stutter fix in 8.4 for XP (the hotfix didn't work)

I'm not sure if my problem is the "stutter issue" that ATI was trying to fix, but I get periods wehre my clocks drop back to the desktop setting in the middle of a game, which usually slows the game down a lot. I wouldn't call it stuttering since it can last up to 30 seconds. I'm not sure if the hotfix cured it because I noticed strange graphic anomolies once it was installed. So it went bye bye.

any idea when 8.4 is out, it should hopefully be tomorrow or sooner. im back to using xp and gaming is hidious with 8.3

Actually, if I read it right, that's precisely the cause and the thing they were trying to fix. I don't believe my performance hit was caused by that, though. I've taken to using Rivatuner to force the clocks to stay put at the higher speed (and the fan, too, at a higher speed to compensate), since my clocks drop during certain games and don't come back up (Supreme Commander, Rainbow Six Vegas 2 are a couple).

Hmm. . . I wonder if my clocks were going down yesterday after a a campaign or two of quake wars. My fps was lower than it's ever been in that game. I was struggling to get 30fps and was dipping in the teens alot, while I usually am at 60 with few dips into the 30s.

I've been using 8.3 and had no problems with it whatsoever. It might relate a bit to the total build of the machine. Don't know. I do know that it overclocks easier than the previous driver that I used, but that one was fairly old anyway.

I have 1900xtx and window xp pro 32 sp2 and my catalyst is 7.10 (I think). If I upgrade shoul I notice any diferent or sould I stay with an older version?

I'm using Cat 8.3 to over clock the video card to 850/950 right now, and using RivaTuner to keep the fan speed @40%. I will see temps hit the high 90s while playing The Witcher @1920x1200, so sometimes I'll speed it up to 50% which keeps it around 70 but is very loud.

I haven't switched to RivaTuner for GPU OC yet because I like the idea of the lower clocks while running int he desktop, but really, do I care? Maybe not. I think I might try using RivaTuner tonight, LOL.

Not sure if you would notice any improvement past 8.2. Between 7.10 and 8.2 I would read all of the change logs for the drivers and see if something was fixed or improved that you want. 8.3 would be a waste for you since it's main purpose was to provide Vista improvements for Hydravision and CrossfireX.
