I ran the Stress test and according to Core Temp one of the cores hit 70 in less than 2 minutes. I just want to fix the issue because its a joke. I also had plans to overclock but it seems I can't now.

Mate, not all chips(cpus) are made alike. You could have another q6600 and results could be totaly diferent. None of the temp readings (bios, software, etc) are completely accurate. Dont worry about it. If intel tells you below 70c its in spec, means that at 70c he will throttle lowering clock speeds and thus temperature.

Honestly ? If you wanna a good OC or you wanna really cool, do YOUR homework on a good CPU Cooler, check if the case airflow is "something" and then order it. That guy from the store didnt pwned you. He asked money for a service. We can advice you as much, because it is a techie forum and we do it free and just for kicks. Guys like him provide services. If you CPU blows in his hands it his problem. Your CPU blows in your hands because you tried to OC on information you read on a forum ( and i consider THG a very respectable one, and a good source for info ), dont come ask for money.

This last part was just defending a guy that made you a favor of showing the correct readings. And thus charged the service. AFAIK he could have lapped the CPU and you dont know.

Honestly ? do your homework and OC it. Dont tell me about CPU lifetime, because ive seen about 3 of them fried so far, and ONE was a result of a bad OC. But in that case we were shunting L Bridges witch you cant do now. Ive being working in IT for 15 years now. Only 3 fried.

Have fun

Ok thanks, i'm waiting for the new Antec case to come out in the uk thats why my case sucks at the moment .

EDIT: Intel said not to worry about the core temperatures and to look at the whole CPU Temperature. Whats the best software for this?

My CPU must be overheating because the CPU is at 10% load and the computers slowing down. My X2 4600+ was much better then this :(

hey DarkComet, your CPU is probably not faulty, the right temps are those shown in RealTemp, to get the right ones in CoreTemp you will have to edit the settings file and put in the correct TJMax value, wich is 95 for 45 nm cpus and not 105; that's why there is a 10 C deifference between the 2 cores.
If you don't do intensive use of your CPU, the stock cooler will be ok.
If you instead do 3D graphics, video editing and encoding and heavy stuff like that, you will greatly benefit from a better cpu cooler, although a good airflow is essential in archieving good temps.
If you can't be bothered planning elaborate airflow solurions, get a case with a 25 cm side fan (they spin slowly and are silent, dont worry), that should do the trick, prices start from 40 50 GBP for basic models.
Feel free to PM me and i will point you to some reviews.
