nice also i need some ram im thinking bout 4gb of ram what do u suggest. keep in mind the total for everything now is 404

now some questions

my psu 550 corsair should do just fine right?

and my ide and sata hard drives should be fine also correct i got the first sata so i think its transfer speed is 150gb/s or something.

i got 3 fans in my case right now so ill just use those, got cd/dvd, and then i just need to buy a new case ill check that antec 300 one out.

also is there a chance i can use my old case?

and i got a sound card and i think thats about it i got everything covered i believe. If i forgot something let me know.

Yea having the PSU at the bottom is better (in my opinion). makes the pc have a lower center of gravity. Some peeps like the PSU on top but its a matter of taste.

I have the 300 (modded) with (4) 120mm fans and a single 140mm for the top. I can e-mail a pic if you want. i will PM you in a second.....

Remember to make sure if its compatible with your motherboard. Go to Newegg, look up the motherboard you will purchase and read the reviews. You will see the ram that others are using. That way you will have an idea of what ram to buy.

Yes but not all brands work with all motherboards. That's why you have to do your research first. For example : My motherboard is compatible with OCZ platinum, corsair xms series, G. Skill, Kingston hyper X /..... Mushkin, A-DATA, OCZ SLI, Patriot Extreme will not work...

This is the link to that ram :

Thats what you need. I have 2 pairs and they are Top Of The Line for 49.99 a pair.

wow i think i might have to buy the memory online since i dont think any of these stores carry them. Bastards lol but good deal for 50 and 1066 very nice. also did u look over the list to see if im missing anything. ima call up microcenter and frys tomorrow again to ask about all the things i picked and to see if they have them in stock and compare prices of what they got but if they wont price match then ill get most of it from new egg.

And a copy of windows....89.99 For XP SP3 or Vista 32 for 84.99 <--problematic , remember you can swap the 940 for an x2 Callisto 550 3.1Ghz and try to unlock. This way you save around 75-80$ on the CPU... Just a thought...lower the budget....the 550 is stupid fast, gets to 3.4 - 3.5Ghz easy.....

yeah but some peeps say they run unstable and its if u get lucky and get a good one u kno i mean i see where ur going with it i would try it to cuz its only 100 bucks as i remember and i got windows xp sp3, but it would suck if u cant unlock the cores or if it runs unstable. maybe ill give it a go i can always return it with in 30 days or something.

Reply to huntsman

True, you can try to unlock but if you don't want to deal with the hassle then just go with the 940. Just trying to save ya some coin....

also is nice cuz both cpu overclock very nicely according to reviews. and wow would the price for me sure drop hey u kno what ima consider this phenom 2 550 ima look at it as a dual core and if the 2 cores unlock and run good then ok but i think for me like gaming, music, chat, burn dvd and all that i think i should be fine with the 550 its nice that the gigabyte motherboard supports am3, heres a full list now of the parts i picked.

cpu phenom 2 x2 550 = 109
mother board - gigabyte = 109
graphic card - xfx 4850 =109
case- antec 300- 50
ram- g skill = 50

total = 427 very nice i like that

now everything the same but with the phenom 940

total = 504

and then plus tax but only on some parts i think like cpu gonna buy it at micro center they have it cheaper then any where else. and xfx graphic card at frys so for 427 and then plus some tax it would workout perfect rather that 504 plus tax thats like almost a 600 dolla pc.

lot of ppl oc the 550 to 3.8ghz on air and still runs at low temps impressive. Maybe for the extra money i can buy a nice cpu cooler

yep........

And plus in about 3-5 months everything will be cheaper, new chips and video cards will be coming out.......

yeah but if i buy this one ima keep it for like every thinkin bout keeping it for 5 years or so until new stuff comes out and my *** will be slow again lol like the one i have now i think i had it for like 6 years

intel pentium 4 2.8ghz
2gb ram
geforce 7600gs
abit motherboard

old shyt

Reply to huntsman

yeah my first choice was the phenom 550 but i asked in the forums and ppl said it was better to go with the 940 and not gamble with unlocking the 2 cores but a dual core should be just fine for me. Also how well does a dual core handle multi tasking?

Reply to huntsman
- 0 +

You will be fine trust me.. I have a 550 at 3.5GHZ and I can run an instance of prime95 and play a game of Call of Duty 4 at the same time and it still won't max out both cores. Plus 3.5Ghz and 4 gigs of 1066 is fast trust me....You will be amazed at how fast it can get.....

You have an 80% chance of unlocking the other 2 cores so for me its a no-brainer.

The money you save can be used to buy another chip in the near future....

Another option is this : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 819103471R

Yes I have unlocked mine and it works fine......The 550 was recently removed from the UD4P and installed in my new 780a Sli motherboard. i cant really tell the difference from dual to quad cause I never max out more than 2 cores. I just play games on it....

exactly why it go me wondering if i really need the quad and pay 80 bucks more which i dont need it so ill save the money.

Reply to huntsman

just thought in the long run it be better but if i never max out and use those 4 cores then its just a waste of money. and i dont really multi task to much either i play a game or do something else.

AM2+ or AM3..... It doesn't matter they are the same.......I am using one of the best am2+ coolers on my 550.

Pretty cheap for being in the top 5 and my 550 never goes above 51c .....

what about his puppy http://microcenter.com/single_prod [...] id=0304797 a little bit more expensive but pretty crazy that you can put 4 fans on there and has a huge heat sink.

Reply to huntsman

Not bad but make sure you have clearance for the ram. You dont want to buy a cooler and have the fan leaning over the ram slots.

Here is another one that you might consider :

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6835118004

There are many to choose from in this pricerange. Remember to read the reviews and make sure it wont get in the way of your ram.
