As im new to the overclocking im into Air mostly
want to get into water cooling.
As im still Very new to this Site how do you get your system info under what you write to do you have to manually put it there? i know this is not the right place to Ask this Q but can ya help a Fellow OC out?

Awesome welcome to the forums, whats up with your name?
You do CNC machining?
| overshocked wrote : Awesome welcome to the forums, whats up with your name?

not really. I really like the game Command and conquer. My older brother had a name (hybredM) and my little brother had something like (HyBridmstr) they like have the same name and i just stuck to and to together, I like command and conquer and i am so much better at the game then my friends it not even funneh.
They wont even play me anymore because they know they will lose. It can be 1(me) vs 3 (friends) and i will still win XD thats how amazing i am.
so i came up with CNCmasterW... i have no idea why i put the W except because it is more likely not to be used then just cncmaster.
But no i do not do cnc machining. I hardly even know what that is Cept for the random time i see that machine in my school being used.
im 17 ^_^

I think toms need an overclocking chalange. I would love to battle it out with you.

Hey thanks. My mobo Prevents me from Giving a Higher overclock. Anything higher then i think its 420 or 419 FSB it wont post at all.
Wish i had your luck;D im thinking about getting a I5 because I want to be able to use all of the power of the 5850
For a 5850 you will need at least an i7
| cncmasterw wrote : Hey thanks. My mobo Prevents me from Giving a Higher overclock. Anything higher then i think its 420 or 419 FSB it wont post at all.

not really luck when you spend $800 on cooling
Im sure if i overclock the i5 i can Surely Get the 5850 to perform Almost at max. Not everything can Perform at Max its almost impossible
but i spend $40 on cooling and got lucky with how well it performed. As im about to sell my current computer and Build the i5 system im waiting for the 5850s to come into stock because this Is Ridiculous. im not here to rant on about price;D we are here to talk about overclocking and 3D mark score!
I score 13000 something with my system. I will test again and Display Results soon.
Yea, the shortage of 5850's and 5870's is rediculous and unacceptable, I guess that is what happens when you launch something in limited quantities.
Look how much they have gone up over at E-Bay :

I KNOW!! the price is just uncanny! i want to punch those fools. but thats okay... IM A NICE GUY and would only hurt a fly if it was annoying me
. i found a few websites that have them in stock for about regular price but i bet there out now.
I Wish i had the 5850 wiff a i5 system i would have the most bad ass system in my Neighborhood
and make my friends even more jealous of my computer. They dont know how to spend there money wisely on computer hardware (laptops) they buy from stores. i wouldnt recommend doing that unless its a Half off sale or something so you know your getting the REAL price and not the 50% increase stores put it at
but other then that life is great.
So Tell me Is it worth upgrading to water cooling ?

WOW, cncmasterw...
I wasn't even here when you joined...this might be a little late but welcome to Toms!
And speaking of the 5850 makes my mouth water...not to mention the 5870...
Sorry Videl. i just really enjoy talking about PC hardware and overclocking and I just love pushing things to there Bear Bring of Destruction
to see there power >D
i sound like a evil Genius ;D but thanks for the Welcome. And yes the new 5850/5870 cards are like my new Favorite Sexy Lady
(am i aloud to say such things?)
I reran the 3D mark 06 score and got 13288. I'm not sure if this link will work so here it is

NOOOOOO!
Go get a phase change if your anxious to upgrade cooling.
BTW: you can make a signature so you dont have to re-type it every time you post.
| overshocked wrote : NOOOOOO!

After looking up what phase change was ... It seems interesting. but i rather take a Windows Cooling unit and Build it into my PC lol maybe then it will stay at Awesome temperatures XD lol jk Though i wonder what kind of overclocking you could do by setting that stuff to the coldest it can get. Though i would worry if my stuff gets fried because of a Drip of Spray of Water Shrugs. it was a funny idea XD
phase changing is a little loud of my taste i could go for Dry ice or LN. Maybe i can get a bunch of those Cans of Air pressured cans and just spray a massive load of that stuff on my Zalman cooler That would keep things cool ... as im just joking around it gives me ideas..... just a thought tho.
im still a Beginner so im here to ask Q Observe and take course of what i want to do. XD

HAHA, funny thing is, i made my phase change out of an old a/c . It will pull like -30to -20 at full load.
The canned air will boil at about -20c. I charged my phase with propane wich will boil at -55.
Ln2 and DICE is TERRIBLY fun.
Check out this thread i made a couple months ago, ive come a long way since then.
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/ [...] s-included
BTW, if the pics are cut off on that thread, its not my fault. Tom's HW sometimes does that.
If you give it a sec, the pics will usually fix themselves.
i saw that before Congrats .... so lol my guesses are actually working ideas?
Yeah... An a/c unit is just a phase change that cools the air rather than cooling directly on the cpu.
I was actually thinking about making a phase change...
btw not a bad score there, cncmasterw...not a bad score for your hardware...
Really/? i thought my score was Crappy But there okay for what i need the pc to do.. It took some overclocking alot of overclocking XD not a huge cpu overclock which would be nice i was hoping for 4 but i guess i wont hit that with this Mobo... sad actually
Considering your hardware, your score is not bad...I've seen people with similar hardware get worse scores...
Iv put my stuff through some Stressful tests but for the last couple days iv been getting the graphics card (give out) silver screen where the whole screen is just Silver and it just sits there Shrugs. so declocked it Rewrote the Bios and Flashed the card again...
You save your overclocking settings on the bios of the card?
That's pretty cool and convenient although risky...
How high did you overclock it at first?
Just a thought but I was thinking that if you know someone who has an ati 4850 like from sapphire or something...and you save their bois file and then you buy an ati 4830 from sapphire and flash it to the 4850 bios then you would have a 4850 acquired at a cheaper price...I was thinking this because the cards seem to be identical with just clock speed differences, ram speed differences, and 160 processing units are locked on the 4830...but the chip itself is the same...I wonder if that would work...I wanna try it...
Or better yet...get a 5850 and flash the bios to the 5870 bios and you got yourself a cheap 5870...Wow! lol
| videl wrote : You save your overclocking settings on the bios of the card?

I only flash the viso when i know the clocks are stable I use Riva tuner to clock my card. Then if its completely stable i go into the bios Raise the Vcore and Put the clocks at the overclocked stated that was stable. then i try to push it further because my vcore is higher.
Its not recommended that you change the bios ... from one card to another.. a well overclocked 5850 can out perform a 5870 in just about everything but a few games... so try that before changing the bios
How high do you think I can overclock my 4850?
It's a Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4850...
Currently I keep it clocked @ 680Mhz GPU and 1060Mhz Ram...
Hi videl i have A sapphire too.. But i have stock cooling. Im going to buy something better but i managed to get a max overclock of 760 and 1120 memory.. on stock. but after a few days my Memory started over heating now and then so i turned it to 1080 and kept it at that. and i brought my core down to 730 with out a different heatsink i wont push it any higher. Im working for a 5850 so I dont need it yet as i will buy one for the 5850XD
lol.. Idk but If ya wana help a Guy out get the 5850
. id appreciate it So like I managed to Get my Gpu to 800 and 1190 and Kept it there long enough to Try 3D mark 06 and managed to get a score of 13321
Damn, that is some high OC for a 4850. I haven't been able to get my 4870 ram stable past 1090, with heat being the main issue, but have benchmarked at up to 825 on the gpu.
Yea but you have to account im on GDDR3 not GDDR5 . so its harder for the 4870 to reach higher clocks yes the 4850 is overclocked a hell of a lot but i think with better cooling i could easily hit some thing higher . though im working on a new computer So i dont need it to be that high. Plus im going to sell this computer XD
My bad, I forgot that the 4850 were available with both types of ram, and assumed that 1190 was on ddr5.
Wait there is a 4850 with Gddr 5 memory?? O_O
No, the 4830's and 4850's have gddr3 and the 4870's and 4890's have gddr5...
Videl i did some research and Jofamang is right there is a version of Gddr 5 but its a Home mod From some guy whos name i cant remember at the moment counting on i read the artical about 7 hours ago ^_^
4870s that didn't make the cut at 4870 frequencies were, for some time, released as 4850s early in the sales life of the cards, due to the popularity of the budgetfriendly 4850. Combining that tidbit with the current gen of of 5850/70s being both GDDR5, I had a slip of the brain.
Oh i see.. How come this Forum isnt Alive ? does anyone Barely talk anymore? shrugs.. i guess it was more fun in da Heyday of the Forum ...
Yo me and a friend of mine are going to try to and start a small Business and As i only have a few pictures of systems i built Would it count to show What kind of work that I could do . No the Liquid Nitrogen but Normal High end pc's to show what kind they could get as i have a Budget pc i can show (my pc is mid ranged so i can give a Example of that)
I think so...why not?
Huzza XD I will Give created to you
You can send the photos to my Email .. ctewell2004@yahoo.com
Alright...will do...
Is it okay if I send them a little later? I have them on another computer at the moment...
