No problem, it was kind of interesting to see how the whole thing was put together. It's an XFX model. The more I take apart my computer the more I learn!
I never said to get the phenom 720, i just said it's be an upgrade over what you have. This all comes back to clear questions, clear answers.
The point of getting an upgraded processor is to power a better graphics card, in this case the graphics card in question is the GTS 250. Since the GTS 250 is inadequate to your needs, as you have observed, different options emerges. Those options would be to purchase a more powerful graphics card, or not upgrade your monitor.
That being said, i don't think you'll need to upgrade your processor. It should be able to push a GTX 275, or ATI 4890/5850. Which is what i recommend for what you want to do. The 4890 being the cheapest, the 5850 being the most expensive. Performance reflects their price points.
I sincerely hope that answers your questions. If not please restate them in a response post. And be glad i'm still responding to your posts. Most people would just ignore you, like they already are. Demanding behavior doesn't get you polite answers, if any.
Enjoy
Yeah but someone else recomended the 720 because it will last for a long time.
"Those options would be to purchase a more powerful graphics card, or not upgrade your monitor"
So what monitor do I get then? Your loosing me here...
So, your saying I don't need a 720? Wouldn't it last me forever?
OKAY so what CAN that computer play. I'm thinking of getting the 720 phenom so I'll never need to ugrade it for awhile? Because in the future I'll be giving it like an ATI 5500 (around there).
I have the exact same card XFX GTS 250 and would echo these statements except the bit about noise. When the fan spins to anything above 70% it sounds like a hoover to me. The fan noise on this card really bugs me (I mess around with Rivatuner to shut it up a bit) but if it gets a bit hot it will make some noise. It's not a deal breaker by any means and I think you can get one for around 120.00 now which imho is a good deal. I play on a 19" monitor @ 1440 x 900 and everything except crysis I can max out w/frame rates in the 80-120 fps range. If noise doesn't bother you I'd say go for it. Anything above it would be a wase of money unless you plan on buying a larger monitor down the road. Peace.
So if I got an 19" monitor I could max crysis out? It would just sound like a plane? how much watts you have?

4GB/500GB hard drive will last awhile correct?
Thanks please reply
You shouldn't need to upgrade the processor to play Crysis, but if you want to future proof a bit then an upgrade would certainly help.
My apologies i was under the assumption you already had a monitor. If you're sticking to the GTS 250 choice, i'd recommend a monitor with a resolution of 1440x900 or similar.
Again no, you should not need a 720, but it wouldn't hurt to have.
It won't let me scroll back a page in the posting section here, but if i remember right you had an athlon 245 and was planning to get a GTS 250. It will play crysis, but not on all resolutions as stated many times before. If you end up with a monitor with a resolution of 1440x900 or similar it should play it with max detail. Keep in mind i say "should" not "will." Please don't take my educated guesses as fact, but i am confident my assumptions of the hardware is close. I've browsed a few benchmark charts to deduce my assumptions.
Yes 4gb of ram and a 500gb hard drive is plenty for the average gamer.
I hope i was able to answer your questions clearly enough.

What doo you know a 720 is capable of holding? Could I be using a like ATI 5500 with it? Or would I need quad core? Cause I'm getting like a 5500 or 5800 ATI a few years from now I'm wondering if a 720 could hold it.
If not then theres no point in getting the 720 now.
Actually you must have understood wrong. The computer I am GETTING is bought online and you can customize it. I'm just here asking how it should be customized and everything.
how many inches is 1440x900?
Oh and benchmarks aren't right all the time.
Let's say I could afford a ATI HD 5750. What processor etc would it need?
Thanks and please answer ALL of these questions. Thanks!

I don't understand how someone can complain about the fan noise coming from the GPU, if you are gaming your volume should surpass any noise coming from the PC, if you use headphones and still complain then you are a moron. Same thing applies when you watch a movie so how is it that the GPU can bother someone when the PC is in use?
Please explain?
I could understand if you are typing and need 100% silence, but of course if you are typing your GPU won't go over 10% fan speed.

If i was to hazard a guess a 720 stock would be ok with a 5870, provided you run a high resolution. 1920x1080 or higher would be a good balance. Much lower and the CPU will bottleneck it. HOWEVER you'd still be getting high frame rates.
Ah ok.
Resolution does not equate to inches, BUT a low rez like 1440x900 will most likely be on a 19" wide screen or smaller.
Benchmarks are right, but they can me misread. Additionally some benchmarks yield little value. Synthetics can be way off of real world performance. BUT they do give a good ESTIMATE of how your system is performing, coupled with other configurations a results it give a good basis for comparison.
Your current processor will push a 5750 just fine. On any resolution. No need to upgrade.

Shouldn't I get a 720 for the 5750? oh and is the 5750 a lot better then the GTS 250?
he means the 5850 and the 5870 and yes there the best cards on the market today and can play crysis full settings at like 8aa to 10aa at average of 50-60fps

yes but you should be able to find a at least a 22" around the same price as a good 19". Maybe 20-30$ more but well worth it, just make sure the res is at least 1680x1050....

Definitely an overpriced rig. Maybe you should reconsider your choice of where to buy those parts. That is a big sucker for a $1000 rig ($800 excluding the monitor but still not good).
i have a bfg gts 250 512 meg got it for $109 at tiger direct with free cod 4 and love it plays everything i want and they are great on power no need for a very lard psu, crysis on 1680 x 1050 most settings on max and get great game play and by the way bfg has got lifetime warranty and a 100 day trade up, i have only an amd x2 64 6000 4 gig ram and xp 64 ,i cant complain about anything and i can even sli it if i need because its so cheep but right now no need to,it would scream in sli very cheep with free game also..no dx 11 but who cares for now ,ill wait till prices come way down on dx 11 cards and they have enuff games to warrant a dx 11 card i would say go for the 512 model save some cash and if you got an sli board then maybe another later if there isnt any dx 11 games out by the time you need more power by then 250 will be way cheeper and allmost double your dx9 and 10 power..
just my opinion im 41 and been gaming for 15 years
hey guys could anyone tell me some normal gpu core temps for this card?
I have an evga gts250 and its idling around 42degrees, and maxed out at 68 when I was simply playing cs:source (although average fps at max everytrhing is 270)
Hmm okay well then I'm considering building my own computer. Could you guys give me the exact same specs I gave you from the previous link but from newegg? I want to see how much cheaper it is.
Keep in mind if theres any deals make sure to put them in. I don't mind spending $20 or $50 more on something that would help me out a lot.
