I just thought of another thing, on my vid card there are three led lights on its little circuit board. Only one of them is on, and there doesn't seem to be a name for it. If it helps, it is the one furthest away from the fan. Is this a problem? My plan on buying, then returning won't work and this RMA is looking imminent so I just want to be sure.
ahh - just email me at bilbat@wi.rr.com
I'll try again to see what I can track down regarding the LEDs - as I mentioned, the Sapphire manual is pretty much useless (at least, the one they've posted on their product site), but these cards are all done to a 'reference design' by ATI, so, for the main part, all cards with the same GPU and the same memory setup should, for the main part, resemble each other closely...
ok new update. The problem is in fact not the vid card. I bought a basic PCI-E vid card from staples, and yet I was still getting my lack of signal. Upon more thorough testing I have found the problem to be the motherboard. Firstly, when all of my RAM is taken out, and I turn my system on, I don't get an array of beeps like I should. This confused me because whenever the system was on, and the power cable became askew, the system would wring out the corresponding beeps to tell me there was an issue with my power supply, before turning off. And remember that issue with the USB's? Well I tried plugging in a PS/2 keyboard. So this is straight from the motherboard, no usb's involved. My keyboard would still not turn on! That convince me, my motherboard was faulty. I have a few theories as to what that may be the problem which hopeful you can confirm for me; when I was first putting my motherboard in, I laid it down on the chassis without spacers, ignorant of the static electricity dangers. Then, when actually putting it in, it touched the side of the case numerous times. Of course, the system was off when this happened, so is it still possible that I short circuited my mobo? Next theory might have been putting to much physical stress. To this date I am unsure as to how to properly instal my stock CPU fan (C2 Quad Q9400). Now, as long as it stays in place and turns on, im satisfied, but at times I was pushing pretty hard on the mobo to get it to stay in place, likely to hard. All of this was done in foolish ignorance, and I am now aware of my folly, so please don't judge or criticize. Do these examples sound likely? I would like to get on with RMA'ing my motherboard so I need to find out if this seems a good course of action.
