While it's benching it should not burn it. It's stressing it mathematically in hopes of forcing it to error, at which time you'll probably only experience a BSOD and have to reboot. Neither the CPU nor mobo should fry in the process.
SiSoft Sandra is another test you can use, and it's test are short-term, but taxing. I only move onto long-term tests like Orthos or Prime95 after making several successful passes though the slew of tests within Sandra, first.

Is failing when performing calculations in orthos a good indication to show that the overclock is to much etc?
Would sisoft sandra be a better start and as long as it goes good move onto orthos?
I figured as long as orthos didn't fail everything was ok

A failure in Orthos is a clear sign the OC is too much. And yeah, if all goes well in Orthos or Prime95, then the OC is fine. However, both Orthos and Prime95 should be run for extended periods of time, meaning hours, even days. Sandra tests have a much shorter duration, usually lasting only a minute or two, so if you have any trouble in them, you'll very likely have trouble in the much longer duration Orthos or Prime95.
Yeah, but the point I was trying to make was if a 1-min test gives a go ahead, then proceed to the long-term. If a 1-min test fails, no sense moving onto the long-term.

umm well i just use this benchmark program http://freestone-group.com/ and well i wonder anyone know why my radeon 4670 score even lower than geforce 7600 ??oO
im loading that but it's still 3 hours left xDD don't know if it's my network or the server xD hey and well do u still band on psn ?? i send u a friend request for a while but it still say pending xD
xDD well i guess what bad for me is most (actually all ) of my friends don't have ps3 so i can't play with any of my "real" friends online xDD also do u have mgs 4 ? i wonder is that game good too ? cause i watched the review and play the demo and it seem awesome but i don't know if it's really worth getting or not =="
That CPU shouldn't be hitting ANYTHING above 60....55 is even a dangerous point...running your cpu like that it won't take long before you smell something burning!
Are you using the stock HS? you should get a new HS+F and install it ASAP along with some GOOD! cpu grease and you may want to add some case fans as well
My room was actually cooled ok last night and at 100% i wasn't hitting anything above 50 degrees on both cores
But you need to stop using your processor AT ALL! if it is running that hot as that is a surely kill your cpu tempature...
Iv got my case laying on its side with the side cover off and the fans are all turned to shoot the air straight out of the case and i always keep an oscalating fan on so my gear stays pretty cool
Your case should be open if your running that hot!
Il say it again this is very SERIOUS! you should look at the kill temps of the cpu you are running as you are ABOVE them!

Yeah it could very easily accumulate a few more degrees and that would be the end for the processor....if he can he needs to find a way to get the temps lower...
It really depends how the load temperatures where obtained. If it was half an hour of Prime95(like you should use to get load temps) then it would be fine. If not Komomu should look into getting better cooling.
so okay i run the 3dmark06 here is my score
sm2.0 score 3132
hdr/sm3.0 score 4021
cpu score 2212
i wonder if this good or bad??
ps. my set up is
core 2 duo e7400 3gb radeon 4670

I just run Prime95 for about 3 minutes and it hit 66 degrees (never saw that high before)should I open my case?

66 in 3 mins is hot in a hurry... Yes you should try opening it up. Also, get some sort of fan (house or PC) to blow fresh air onto the CPU area. If it still hits 60+ in 3 mins while open with a fan blowing fresh air onto it, then I'd say you're in need of a better cooling solution, or at minimum, removal and cleansing of the HS/Fan and CPU of the old thermal grease, followed by the application of some high-quality Arctic Silver 5 or similar quality thermal grease. Though, even this may not yield a significant reduction in heat due to your location and the higher ambient temperatures you deal with daily.
I have my AMD 5000+ Black Edition OC'd to speeds similar to those of a stock 6000+ CPU (3.2GHz - 16 x 200 @ 1.42v) and it will run Prime95 for hours with temps topping out at 49 or 50C. But, I'm using an aftermarket HS/Fan - ZEROtherm BTF80 w/ ZEROtherm's ZT-100 thermal paste.

Yeahp same here with my 6000+ @ 3293....AMD 64 Pro cooler
