Last message on previous page: Some of us here at Toms know the writers, or, have read their comments within the forums over the years.
The framework that they have to work in often caused by this limited approach, and it flies against their personal opinions.
Id point out Cleeves i7 vs P2 CF article, whic he wasnt satisfied with. First glance, was bias all the way, but when redone, it showed a cleaer scenario, and thank to Toms, it was able to be done, and things like that clear up any supposed bias.
I hope Anand gets his chance too

Hanging out in the gpu section as I did, you get to know him. Same for paul.
Theyre current, not biased, meaning that they know whos doing what, and how well that impacts us, in all ways, even outside of perf, thus cleeves popular monthlies on bang for buck.
To me, it becomes a conditioning, and some, like cleeve, just wont accept certain things, when he knows better, and it plays to his integrity, not diminishes it

Another coinidence?
"Testing with AMD GPUs: Not So Great
Update: The Release Notes now indicate Catalyst 9.11 drivers are required, which would explain our difficulties in testing."
http://www.anandtech.com/video/sho [...] i=3678&p=3 Nice lil CYA add on there
This isnt the first time either.
This isnt a scoop, this is beligerant to me.
Now, we will wait to see IF he does the rest
Comments regarding netbooks
"Just ads or facebook makes my netbook slow and youtube hd stutters. For a at least acceptable experience I'd recommend Windows+IE for the non geeky user. Sad but true. "
So, in essence, the netbook "all theyre used for is surfing" is skewed at best. Anand giving AMD a break is skewed once again, and gpgpu usage IS the future
Oh, and since Anand failed to mention this in his "update" , I'll add it here

Kinda late to this thread but for what its worth i don't think people are ever going to be non biased 100% of the time. There are some very good writers out there who try to keep a distance but once you get to know a style you get to see where they are shining the silvery light and where they are just typing the facts.
I believe the main reasons a lot of stuff gets to print or onto the net is both a lack of knowledge on the editorial team and a complacency between the writers and the production team as a whole.
Its not so much that the guys proof reading (well sometimes i wonder if they do) miss stuff, i think its more a complete lack of understanding the subject.
When the 5770 came out one national magazine printed an article that stated the 5770 chip was just a hamstrung 5870 and the extra Sp's were there to re-enable unless AMD had done something so you couldn't This was pointed out by others but no retraction was ever printed and forum posts were ignored.
I know its difficult actually checking as these guys are essentially hired for the knowledge they presumably have and as such there has to be a trust that they actually know what they are doing, but even so unless its your own site or mag then you are opening yourself to all sorts. People will forgive the odd thing but if the writers are publishing crap every other week you will soon be out of business.
Yes, hes been busy.
@mac, I agree, but this is Anand himself in both instances Ive pointed out, not a writer of his, and yes, he states he will correct it, again, heres another opportunity to do so.
The 9.11 drivers are out to the public now, he has had the 9.11 drivers fow awhile, as the 5890 reviews will soon be here, so again, no excuses.
Since AMD announced this themselves recently, and since this is a beta product, and since hes doing a review on the 5890 tomorrow, and he has the right drivers etc etc etc
It just portrays AMD/ATI as being incompetent, instead of him being so

I think Anand is an enthusiast who prefers Intel products. For the most part I think he gives AMD an even shake, but every 6-8 weeks or so he can really lay a turd. But what's 1 article in 20? And I'm guessing a good-many click-thrus on those banners help pay some bills over there.
The real knob-slobber over there is the guy that does notebooks. He's about as fair and balanced as Rush

Radeon HD 5970?
LOL... I made the same mistake with Randomizer yesterday by calling it the 5890

It does to my point I made in another thread tho.
They dont bench, run articles, do tests in a 4 to 1 ratio, at all
No one does, and thats a diservice to those 20%
But during the Athlon64 days they did the very same thing with AMD being the 4 and Intel being the 1 in that ratio.
It has nothing to do with Anandtech being biased. It has to do with Anandtech being performance junkies (like most of us are). People who care about obscure marketing reasons for liking one CPU over another are more often than not fanbois. They just cling to a single excuse as to why they "HAD" to get that CPU they own and as to why they "HAVE" to support a particular manufacturer.
It's quite obvious. During the AMD AthlonXP days, these same "folks" used to go on about performance per clk. Today, they ignore that talking point all together and instead talk about how "We don't need more performance, a Phenom II is plenty enough" and they don't even mention the fact that even with the Core 2 Quad, Intel is leading the performance per clk battle.
In fact Intel is also leading the performance per watt which many "folks" used to bang on about because AMD used to lead in that department (Athlon64 X2 with it's integrated memory controller taking less power then an Intel Core 2 Duo with it's North Bridge).
It get's worse. AMD used to hold the performance crown and you would have "folks" claiming that more performance is important and that AMD ruled! Now these same folks claim that what we all ought to do is buy $99 Quad Cores and Value chips (they point to AMDs lead in the ultra value segment as the all important win).
They're marketing talking points and they're all too often used by fans to try and convince others of the superiority of their favorite brand. It's just like Politics only played out in the IT world.
It's this simple really.. right now.. Intel has the best product and Anandtech has shifted its sights to what the majority of its viewers want to see.. how the best product performs. When AMD take the crown (I think it is a question of when and not if) Anandtech will switch again. Anandtech are not fanbois or biased based on brand.. they're biased towards what performs best. Whomever has the best product will get the most coverage (In essence.. I AM ANANDTECH.. I follow the same mantra so I understand it quite well).
PEace.

I agree, except for this last snafu.
The cpus, well, currently its true, but to rundown AMDs future, without giving it at least a top billing isnt good, as we really dont know how itll perform, they deserve a chance.
This latest one tho just takes the cake.
He could easily either:
Waited for all things,as he had the drivers, weve all read the announcements etc
Waited til its out. Again, were talking same day goof up, or close to it.
If AMD is continually to look bad by 1 day, it sure paints a bad picture overall

Well when RV770 was released, Anand was gushing all over it. In fact he even did a 1 on 1 with AMD/ATi on RV770. He went into all of the details that went into creating the RV770 (he hasn't done anything remotely as in depth with nVIDIA). You can view that article here: http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.aspx?i=3469 (It's one of my personal favorite articles).
