We have the Irish setter, the German sheperd, The Irish wolf hound, The newfoundland, alaskan husky, oh and of course, the French poodle
Oh, and by the way, those who make fun of the chihuahua, Mexico kicked the French to the ground too
When I lived in AU Canada (Langford, outside of Victoria, Vancouver Island (aka "the rock", BC), I talked to alot of my Canuckian friends about Quebec, and their choice to vote as to stay in the Federation or not. Me being a Yank (yes, thats a capital Y), was shocked. I told them only 1 state has such a right back in the States, and if those Texicans ever tried pulling that kinda crap, even for a vote, the rest of the country would come down on them like a ton of bricks, which shocked a few of my Canuckian friends, explaining to me the Canadian constitution etc.
So, after a lil Canuckian history, I asked the obvious question : WHY?
They hemmed, they hawwed (things Canuckians do alot when something embassing is let out the closet, being as polite and civil as they are), I heard it squeak out. Its because theyre French, and francophones etc etc.
True story. I asked if theyd start calling it France part deu heheh

I alway hung out in the 'New Topics' section. I monitored the entire Forum from that link at the Forum home page. One click on 'New Topic' and all the new Topics for the 'entire' Forum were listed. I could clear that feature and come back hours later and with one click view every New Thread created while I was away. Gone. Justin asked the French sisssy about it. The anser He got. "That feature took up to much system resources." Which translates into French, "Where'd that go!!!" "It was here before..I think...wtf?" I answer a lot of threads that have no reply. Or I answer questions about compnents I own or have worked on before. I have a lot of older systems running so sometimes a thread will pop up asking about old stuff. Now I rummage through the Board topics looking for all this. Like a French soldier who ran from the line and got lost finding his way back to the blueberry crepes section of the fighting unit. Brown pants and all.
The French purposly ruined and are trying to reinvent everything about this site because it was American. The Forum was tore down because of it's American ties in building it. The long time users are American and they are being tested too. Disrespected. (Puts down finger)

Your Anandtech point total now gets double Tom's BOM points when you use those tools on Tom's. Besides that, I belive the guys running the Anandtech message board have their certificate in Mr. Potato Head efficiency. Which the French guy running this dog and pony show obviously does not.

Points should only be awarded to an OP if their thread is a sticky IMO. Maybe moderators should be able to award points to a user, rather than relying on the OP to tick the box and click the button which happens in a pitifully small number of cases.
After reading most of your link, I came to the same conclusion Ive always had. French jokes are funny, knock the French a lil, but, if respect is to be had, it has to start somewheres, and thats where I draw the line, and hold onto it, whether the French do so or not.
Its soooo easy to tear into the french, and I have to really try sometimes when this subject comes up. To me, the french are more a self centered people, and is why, believing this so adamently, they simply dont believe in an american way. An example of that is socialism, which they embrace, and hardly believe in the right and sanctity of a greater individualism. And, in my mind, is why they just dont buy this "american way". I wont go into it any farther, because by doing so, I tend to fall off the cliff, and roll with the rest. Im still hoping for that respect, both ways.
I will say this. Socialism breeds a "i already paid at the office mentality", where everyone can share in the common good, The whole body of a nation, sharing in the common good, but not 1 face for the giver of these benefits is seen by the receivers of them, making for a faceless, lukewarm approach to problem solving, and the proponents shouting "All it needs is more money"
To me, when we remove ourselves from the real problem, and just throw money at it, theres a loss that cant be made up. Believing that makes me a Yanky. Sorry, I cant help it, Im an American

Amen to that. Actually here in Quebec I don't believe the problem isn't Socialism, I believe it's civil irresponsibility and unionization (in 2003 41.2% of Quebec workers were unionized vs. 32.4% in Canada vs. 15% in the US).
About civil irresponsibility, it seems that, as a whole, most people believe it's the government's responsibility to protect them and make sure their lives get better. You got screwed by an unscrupulous salesmen? Not your fault OR the salesmen, the government should have voted a law against people screwing you over!!! The government HAS to pay for parental leave! People took privileges and turned them into rights and I hate that. I mean be glad of what you have instead of complaining about what more you could get. Oh, and people will complain if they ever have to pay for the services they asked for...
For unionization, I just believed that over the years it turned into a farce. Most government workers here (white collar or not) are unionized (and I believe about 20-25% of the population is a government worker at one level or another) and the way their union contract was approved protects most of their jobs no matter how unproductive they get. As long as you are not misbehaving you pretty much have job security for the rest of your life. Talk about a way to have an efficient government.

If a more rational structure such as the one suggested by Zenthar cannot be implemented, then I'll add my voice for bringing the old system back. I don't care about points, but society already has too many ways to reward incompetence without it spreading here too.
Hmmm, some +1s for Proximon also.
Tom's Newbie here...... quantity will always be better than quality! NOT! This is probably a concept of marketing as quantity (hits) is perceived by marketing being better than quality. It has been dictated by the almighty chase of the $$$$. The American way.... these are tough times and although I understand the need to generate revenue the implementation of this specific plan appears to have the ability to increase traffic (read "hits) without the "true" benefit or affirmation of being able to have a viable question answered correctly. As stated before many useless posts can be entered to "inflate" a members status while the member can give the wrong and or useless answer. Long time members I take my hat off to you for answering many "stupid" questions and helping others but the fact remains that in order to be a "master" you have to deal with volume... not necessarily being correct. Gone are the days when you had to answer a question with a concise correct answer..... now it's all about volume boys......
Wonder what would happen if everyone that actually answered the posts (that knew something) would leave in mass and no longer post or answer questions and move to another site like Anandtech? Would Tom's eventually “learn” that this specific change was the wrong approach?Letting the marketing department dictate these kind of decisions is like having mortgage backed securities from AIG. I believe that only time will tell.
Newbie OUT! lookin for a new home....... and still unemployed...... and obviously incapable of knowing anything as I am a newbie..... (had to google it......or rather had to click on badge's provided link. Could of never found the answer it without your help. Thx! +1dude!) Heh ... Heh...Heh.....

Weve already had 1 brain drain due to differences of opinion and argument. While these arguments do have to be contained, differences in opinion breed? New and other ideas, new approaches, a wider understanding. It also requires respect.
The new system doesnt require anything of this nature, nor does it perpetuate this mindset, as others have pointed out, why think, or try, I get mine just by asking.
If BOM doesnt respect whats already been an accepted norm here, a culture if you will, whats that saying to its readers? If theres no respect, and no credit where credit is due, and the reward comes to anyone, with or without merit, we will end up having another brain drain, and these new changes wont so much a guide of conduct, and obviously not a show of respect and reward, but a waste of time, and will lead to either mindless teenage drivel, or, go back to forming another structure, one formed on respect, knowledge and patience, in which case, they can point and say, see it worked!! While I point back to my earlier comment, if it aint broke.....
fix it not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So with this system you could create 2 or more user accounts, Start a New Topic, answer the topic question from your other account (member) then reward your self for the best answer. Well have a Gigabillion points in no time.

I like your thinking...
. Sign me up twice then.... I don't want to be a Newbie
anymore!

Agreed ..... and as pointed out in earlier posts..... when it is known how the system operates and is understood and dissected.... it can be played...... as stated by knotknut...... and therein lies the problem. In theory you could have a master/expert that doesn’t know squat.
Excuse me while I go on to deal with more important matters ..... like posting for points.....

shabaa wrote : Excuse me while I go on to deal with more important matters ..... like posting for points.....
Here is a classic example....( ^+1 ) How many times have I seen that...too many.
Why even post if you cant write a sentence?

What an evil mind.
I like that.
So how many posts, reponses, reward combos does it take to get a Gigabillion points? Will that raise my status above newbie?
Gotta have status. I feel so violated now. Over 800 posts and demoted to newbie. Gee and only 2 years in the Senate qualifies one to run for President. Or 2 years as Governor of one of the smallest states in the country to be next in line.
Don't get me started. I have a 1 and 1 account and can create some obscene number of email addresses easily.
must it all be grammatically correct or are you an english major?
rockyjohn wrote : So how many posts, reponses, reward combos does it take to get a Gigabillion points? Will that raise my status above newbie?
Just barely. The coveted award will be the white flag with a chunck of cheese printed on it. I think its called "The Charlie".
xtc28 wrote : must it all be grammatically correct or are you an english major?
Grammar Police!!!!!!!!!!!!! Run!!!!!!!!!
The next thing you know there will be newbies insisting on proper grammar. (I Hope this passes the test as a complete sentence. I do not want to be flamed by a newbie)

try wait, somebody wen take all the grammar? now whata we gonna do?
Call Jeff Foxworthy and start his comeback tour.
I was thinking Rodney Dangerfield...but he got carried away.
lol
Can I be Charlie???
When I was a kid my parents moved a lot, but I always found them.
Rodney Dangerfield
I see I have risen to the ranks of a "Tom's Regular." There must be a secret bonus for contributing to whiney threads
I'm an Anandtech Scout now. Tomorrow who knows. Watch that feature go next just to let us know they are watching.
I think they've stopped reading this thread now
Mr. Moderator - if you are reading this - could you please tell us what is the distribution of forum members among the various designation? Just curious. And I can't imagine how many will reach the top rungs.
Put it this way. The members with 30k+ posts are only addicts.
Ummm, what about crash?
I'm close to being Master Elder of THGC. Probably by sunday night, monday morning I'll have the 100 grand.
Crash is just over halfway to the rank after addict, but is still an addict. He has a custom title though, so it makes no difference in his case. If the points were purely based off post count you'd need to have around 750000 posts to be a Master. ![]()
EDIT: Well played there badge.
Not knockin the fellas in other (nervously keeps 1 eye on the basement door), but all the help crash has been in the past, just like us, is for nothing, while some (still watching that door) just use the site for social recreation, and their posts have reached ludicrous speed
should I slow down?
I was once a founding father, now an Embyro. I think over at mwave I'm like toilet water. But I was a wannabe.

A lot of members with the most posts on Tom's have already left and started a forum of their own. Before long Tom's BOM won't have anyone left to be their high post, low point dufus members. Wait, yeah a lot of posts but no points for time put in previous to the new ranking system. Makes sense. What good is a member that has more points than the new guys. To them I mean.
If yure refering for EXample the brain drain I Cited earlier I comPletely Understand youS
What do I do now? Explain my new PSU caught on fire? Pro: It was bitchin' cool blue color. Con: not free and didn't provide sex without force. ***** I gave it 5 starts for performance. And really quite.

I'm working on a nucleur explosive device. It's designed with N. Korea (China's biatch) in mind. The idea is to cause a nucleur explosion that is so nucleur all the air molecules explode and a chain reaction occurs. Their shadows are left inprinted in the sidewalk behind them where they stood starving led by a deranged puppet dictator before I got to them.
You mean mrcommunistgeneral hisself? heheh
