Wow! How interesting of a concept.

The curious case of Toms Master Wannabes! Doesnt make for as good a movie as Brad Pitts flick but it might work here.

This idea made me think, why not define a user's level by the number of posts made over a limited lapse of time (ex: last 6 months)? Then a user's level might fluctuate over time if he gets more or less active. There is probably flaws to that I didn't think of, but I tried to come-up with original ideas.

To get a truly accurate system isn't going to be easy. Post count alone doesn't make you a regular, but as Zenthar just said, post count over a certain time period might be worth considering. Chances of it happening: very low.

Well, my two cents, at least these changes have cured my recent method of time wasting, I was slowly working on posting sensible replies to sensible questions and watching the post count go up knowing my title was being worked on in a meaningful way, and now I really cannot be bothered!!!!!!!!

Its like, here are the rules, so you spend your time working to those rules, then the rules change and all the work you have done is really gone, and now you follow the new rules, Not so bad for a lowly forum member like me, But heck, if I had posted 8000 replies, I would have left without so much as a goodbye|!!!

Some are finding it not worth it. Not so much as status, as some have high status, but the time we use here is OUR time, and having to battle a system that encourages teeny bopper attitudes and rewards have left some fruitless

On that note ^ Ill just say this. Ive been a member for how long now almost 3 months and Im now a Toms Regular. I know how long and hard you guys had to work to get there before it must have been tough to wait so long. Personally, I think it sucks for you to get demoted in such a manner. I think it is easier to get a higher rank now instead of waiting years to get the Addict or Master Rank. I like wingdings "Type" of title it shows personality. We should all have such personality type rankings that reflect on our style of posting not so much on the "You reach this many points and you get this rank." Of course this could not be an initial Rank, Newbie/Noob.....(I like the latter) is perfect for this. Now lets take into consideration the guys who actually do know something about computers and their relative technologies. I propose a TEST...... Yes I said test. One to check the knowledge of an incoming NOOB. The scoring users are given a denomination as per their score. This could be a simple test for NOOBS up to a pretty hard test for hard core users who want to obtain a high rank in the Toms network. Then we would also have to take in consideration for the amount of posts the user has as well. You cant be in a rank of Master if you only stop by twice a year. Once a user has enough points AND posts (points being for on topic good answers not random BS as sometimes I give). You put these together and you will find that it would be the best way to get good ranks by Knowlegde and Correct participation. TOMs/BOM would probably get more hits becuase the caliber of answers should rise.

Post counts can only be seen when viewing a user's profile.

Hey I resemble that remark......... Wow, I have made all those "meaningless" posts to kind of make a point. To show the complaints of our long time users are valid. Also, to show that being REGULAR just means that I come here ALL the time and my bowels are clean. For that matter this isnt the onlly thread Ive been on. AND I have been out there in the lobby helping out noobs. As for other threads (trolls), thats just fun!

They love to argue just for the sake of it and seldom if ever change their mind.

I think they are frightened that if they can't hear their own voice their jaw will seize up ...

I find picking up the guitar and playing badly helps discourage them.

Any more than two of them in a room constitutes either an angry mob, a new political party forming, or the possibility of another ship being sunk.

French women's voices are hot.

French food can only be eaten once a week and needs to be purged with German food followed by English food ... hence all of the wars were really just about people trying to purge.

French programming has obviously slipped severely ...
