Thank you my Master!!
What is thy bidding?
First? Should I start multiple threads on the same topic on how to turn on a PC to get my post counts up and then start another "member" and vote for them as the best answer getting more points.
Second? Post multiple threads with my "fake" member and vote myself as the best answer to get even more points?
Will this work my Master??
At least I'm unharmed by the change ![]()
4 points to the person who finds out what "youngster" means in French when translated properly.
weenie.
randomizer wrote : 4 points to the person who finds out what "youngster" means in French when translated properly.
I would personally translate "a youngster" to "un jeune". The word "jeune" is usually an adjective meaning "young", but can also be used as a noun meaning "youngster" (at least I think so, English isn't my native language).

So it's not like "wannabe" which means "aspirant"? I was hoping it meant something really good.
At least "wanabee" is gone
. I still want to be "Master" tho.

I'm from Canada, so I'm probably as much Frenchmen as Americans and Australians are Englishmen

"The reason that older scores are so low is to not have the system negatively affected by old members who are not active anymore."
How does old members having high socre negatively impact the system? If they don't post, no impact. If they do post, the are active and full contribution should be recognized. With respect to this concept, since the inactive posters don't show anyway, the only thing the change does is negative - to penalize long time, valuable posters.
"They are confident that, given a few weeks of normal participation, your scores will be very accurately reflected." First off, they cannot be if you have written down the old posts. That makes them flat out always wrong. And lets see, takes 1500 points to be a regualar @ 4 points per post that is 375 posts. And 3,500 points or another 875 posts to reach the next level. If the issue is to be cleared up in a few weeks, how many posts does one have to do per week of NORMAL participation? And why create a problem that will take weeks to fix anyway? For that matter, why make a change that makes it worse?
The people benefited by the new system are not the old reliable contributors but newbies making a lot of new fluff posts that count about 16 times as much as a prior post and that make repeated social posts not benefiting the user who has questions.
But thank you for making what might be some improvement in the naming scheme. Is there a current list posted any where now or do we just guess?

+1
I couldn't agree more. Isn't it nice to see that the people making these decisions are so far removed from reality that they think this new system is an improvement?
WOOOO HOOOOO NEW names. I gues wee start now on the name bashing. Whos first?
Now people - you just have to get with the PC (post change) program and your new PC designations for the good of the board as it will incentivize the proper behavior - or so I have read.
The process of awarding more points - approx. 5 times as much - to originators posting issues than to people solving them will encourgage more originators. And certainly that is what we need. Apparently there just are not enough people with real issues to post so the forum needs to provide an incentive to those without issues to originate threads. So instead of griping - just go make up some issues to keep all the valuable responders busy.
And giving less points to PC posters, for their accumulated work, apparently is to reward new posters and encourage them to get busy and build there points. If you had a lot of PC posts - well tough nuggies - you can't rest on, or be recognized for, your laurels, you have to earn your stripes all over again. Just like when one company takes over another - hmm what a coincidence - all the goodwill built up with prior management vanishes. Hey, this is real life man.
And if the originators are confused about who the real experts are, well that does not matter as long as the system incentives them to post anyway and others to respond. After all, it is the number of posts that determine advertising revenue - not the quality of advice nor recognition of the quality of advice that matters. Don't forget - this is a business and we are just volunteering here to help them make revenue.
And your certainly can't expect the forum to post possible changes ahead of time and ask for comments. Where on Earth could they do that?
Hmmm, there's been a disturbance in the farce...
Oh hey, I got renamed. Or promoted. Or something.
I think I've been here long enough to recognize people whose advice I would trust, or seek out if I needed it. I don't care how many points they have, or what the French call them. I care about the quality of the answers I have learned to expect from them. That's why I haven't given up.
jtt283 wrote : I think I've been here long enough to recognize people whose advice I would trust, or seek out if I needed it.
Mmmm, that makes me think of a good new feature they could have added: "Favorite poster". You could set as many people as you want as "favorite posters" and see their latest posts. Sure you can probably just go look in their profile, but it might help keep in touch with the poster's who's opinion you value.

That is all well and good. I am happy for you. So you don't pay attention to the ratings, which is not surprising. I beleive that are done for the benefit of less knowledgeable posters - of who there are many - who don't have the knowledge to evaluate the recommendations much less sort out conflicting or alternative ones. They are the ones that should be benefit from meaningful ratings - who the system should be designed to help.
Oh, I agree with you. Something wasn't broken, so the French "fixed" it; was it perhaps in the same way that a tomcat is "fixed?"
Anyway, I try not to be the drone (some days less successfully than others I am sure), so hopefully people can rely on my answers as well, at least from a certain point of view.
Hmmm, and Zenthar that's not a bad idea, particularly when just browsing around. I like your .sig too; it is something Ayn Rand or Nathaniel Brandon might have said.
Personally I'm not sure if I hate "wannabe" or "youngster" more.
It was Justinblue who started this idea of a new ranking system. When questioned, Justinblue states, "there is nothing I can do. I can only suggest, I have no control." So who is responsible for a ranking system which downgrades the older crowd and encourages the nOObs?

You are just madddd because Im a regular! lol J/K

You do kind of fall into the "post as much crap as you can until you get upgraded" crowd.
Awe! Come on! I do things other than that. But I do like a RISE!
You never know I may be someone else too...... and another........ and another............ nah I get enough out this character...... maybe
Hey, I saw a massive post by xtc today. It's probably one of the few, but it was big
"Hey,
I have received feedback from France. Basically, what they feel (and will be willing to adjust if necessary in a few weeks time) is that, scores will rapidly improve with the system after a few weeks. The reason that older scores are so low is to not have the system negatively affected by old members who are not active anymore. They are confident that, given a few weeks of normal participation, your scores will be very accurately reflected.
Justin"
I know I know!!!!!! I know the answer to this one. The french can only count so high, and having all those old non posting members takes up the available points.
Its no wonder Im reglaw

"les enfants" - the youngsters... (noun is plural always)
However, if you used it as a rank, it'd mean something close to "immature" and would be more of an insult
randomizer wrote : Hey, I saw a massive post by xtc today. It's probably one of the few, but it was big
There are more too
Dont stop til those fingers bleed
Yup, according to the new Tom's owners its quantity > quality.
amdfangirl wrote : "les enfants" - the youngsters... (noun is plural always)
'Les Enfants' is not the youngsters, but 'The Children' ; 'Les Jeunes' as Zenthar mentioned would be the youths or the youngsters from the term jeune which means young.
My mom is from Quebec, and I'm Bilingual, but they aren't FRENCH despite what Levesques, Parizeau et al think.
Quebecers aren't cheese-eating surrender monkeys!
I still say do away with names or return the old ones, but I don't care anymore.
TheGreatGrapeApe wrote : I still say do away with names or return the old ones, but I don't care anymore.
Nothing like a once great site driving off very knowledgeable people like TheGreatGrapeApe and rolling out the red carpet for the noobs.
LTNS Ape. Good to see ya
I thought Lajeunes were beans? heheh
young beans the ones that give you gas
I don't think anyone needs a rank other than "member" except those who are most knowledgeable in certain areas. CompuTronix being an Apprentice is kind of backwards.
I doubt it, but I bet you could get banned if you're not careful.
OHHH! Ill quit.

THIS THREAD MUST LIVE

So, what exactly are the Member rankings requirements now. Link?
Apprentice = point total?. Regular = point total? Veteran = point total?
