When I click on JDJ's avatar, something I never thought of doing before, his personal avatars are displayed to the public. I call terrorism. I'm scared to be part orf this. Now, if I have a personal avatar, it will be displayed to the public and just for the idea of having one. I'm dumbfounded.

Speaking of the French tech running this show, you can borrow his screen cleaner.

Oh yeah, that's right.

Today after tennis I decided to take a nap... I got woken up after 1 hour of sleep when my cat put her tail next to my nose and I sneezed. When I realized what had happened, my cat was on the floor up-side down unable to get up.

Just proves cats don't always land on their feet.

What was the topic again?

I dont like catz they really stink up my house. I threw a sofa away after my ex's cats decided to use it for the litter box. UGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!! There was a perrfectly good litter box right around the corner. 2000 dollar sofa ruined. I also moved from the house because it smelled like a cat urinated on everything including my kids bed. SCREW CATS!!!!!!! Sorry Random and other cat lovers, but those things are nasty! Almost as nasty as the pigs in my pops' back yard.

Purdon meow, but let's paws for a moment to put our claws back into this Topic:

Shadow703793 wrote :

+1. I HATE the new ranking system. Some of the good people like Computronix, rubix,Conumdrum ,me (and a lot of other good people) have lost our old position/reputation.

The NEW RANKING SYSTEM HAS A NEGATIVE PSYCHOLOGICAL AFFECT. I some how feel "less" because I'm now only a "Tom's Regular" while I used to be a "Forum Master".

randomizer wrote :

I don't think anyone needs a rank other than "member" except those who are most knowledgeable in certain areas. CompuTronix being an Apprentice is kind of backwards.

I've been following this thread, and it's now time for me to weigh in and offer yet another perspective, as well as a good rant! :ouch:

Those of you who've been here for awhile are familiar with my Sticky "Core i7 and Core 2 Temperature Guide" in the Overclocking | CPU Forum, which is where I've spent most of my time helping others solve temperature problems, and is where you've probably read a few of my posts. I've been a Tom's reader for 11 years and a Forum Member for 3 years, yet to date, I have only 759 points and 2683 posts, (rather than 7000+ posts), because, as you know, I typically take the time and care to write detailed explanations, instead of vague and easy one-liners.

As of this writing, my Temperature Guide, in which I've invested over 2000 hours of research, testing, composition, editing and updates, has 559,196 reads, (by far the highest of all Tom's Forums), and if you Google anything like Core ** Temperatures, the very first link that pops up is to my Guide right here at Tom's, which has no competition anywhere on the Internet, and is a Copyrighted document written by ... excuse me ... an APPRENTICE ??? :o

Pardon me if I'm just a little incensed :fou: :fou: by this dumba** ranking system, which in the eyes of those who are new to Tom's Forums, I'm now perceived as not knowing my a** from apple butter! :pt1cable: This new system has stripped me of my hard earned reputation, and has demoted me to 3rd assistant toilet scrubber!!! :pfff: Further, those of us who've written Stickies receive no rankng category (such as "Expert" ) for all our hard work? :heink: Are these people explicitly going out of their way to pi** us off? :o

Let's not forget that over 6 months ago I was astonished to find that just as was the case in January 2008, I could no longer post updates to my own Guide, because a post length limit had been imposed, which STILL :fou: hasn't been fixed!!! Now, in order to update my Guide, I'm required to email BoM's Head-Honcho-in-charge-of Misdirected Priorities, so they can have their Chief Developer HACK my updates into the server :kaola: which incidentally, envokes another old "character bug" into certain text within my Guide!!!

To summarize, it has been my observation that while BoM should be busy "improving" the Forums by attending to items according to highest priority, such as fixing the numerous bugs which we all tolerate on a daily basis, they are instead demonstrating their lack of insight, situational awareness and organizational perceptions by instead diverting valuable time and resources to overhauling a ranking system that wasn't broken, and by implementing a ranking system that discredits, offends and dishonors those who have already earned their standings. Obviously, BoM's sense of priorities and the Forum Member's are at odds.

The bottom line as it affects my somewhat unique circumstances? With respect to my area of expertise, I am considered an Authority; not an APPRENTICE. After all my efforts and hard work here at Tom's, I resent being referred to as such, or being assigned such a title, nor do I have any desire to jump through any newly imposed hoops just to re-earn that which has already been earned.

Comp :sol:

Yes, this is not a game. Thank you. And you mentioned speaking to the French tech at BoM? This is how I imagine that conversation went. Or at least this is the best French response before their imminent surrender so far today.

Well, BoM really needs to expand all right.
They need to expand to a wider audience, and thats higher tech as well as answering "I spilled my softdrink on my computer, and after the smoke cleared, I saw my c o m p u t e r was no longer on. Do you think itll be ok?" questions.
Theyve done well by the new system for the softdrinkers, how bout us hard liquors?

@pauldh, always good to see old faces.
Lets not forget I was the last and only person to carry "Master Historian of THGC" around this forum before the new ranking system took over. ;)

Jake threw my Internet famous (the first and most comprehensive) C2D OC Guide in place of Graysky's cumbersome guide that's not even for THGers eye-only. I never asked anything in return.

I don't think BoM and the French forum developers has the slightest clue how much knowledge once existed in this community before 'the incident' that occurred in early-mid 2007, single-handily triggered by one lunatic former moderator.

While the quality of contents on the THG main site is on its way to recovery (although slow, at least they're making an effort), the forum is in a complete mess. The activity I'm seeing on the forum now is like one stone-age person helping another stone-age person. They just don't have a damn clue and it's funny seeing them taking weeks to solves a problem. Or most of them go unsolved. I'm not going to point fingers at who in this forum are making daily effort to try help others, but their level of knowledge is a complete joke in my eyes.
While I would like to solve all of them (look at my June-09 records under the wusy account as example, oh that's right RCPilot deleted it for not reason, oh well) I can't anymore because I have moved on and so have many others. If the level of knowledge had kept up then it wouldn't have mattered today if I people like us left as there will be new top class posters filling in to keep the pattern going.

Anyway, it was fun and I learnt a lot from the day THGC went public on Nov. 11th 2000 till Jake banned me on Nov. 7th 2006. Nothing lasts forever I guess.

And as Ive grown and learned, I feel the loss greatly, as I love to learn, and as youve said, knowledge is hard to come by here on Toms, at least the kind Im seeking, so I peek elsewheres for real knowledge, and slowly bring it back here, but the pace is dreadful

I have stayed, because helping the first-time builders is what I do. Yes, it is repetitive, but a newb can learn. I try not to waste too much time on the drones. I don't belong on the more hardcore sites, as that isn't my interest and I probably don't have anything worthwhile to add. I was surprised to discover that most of those other sites are not blocked at work [any more], so I may check them out. Still, I would come here if only for Don's monthly articles (and a few others).
