^^ agreed.
Kidding aside, if the demands there, we should have it

That's an interesting idea, tandersky. I could see it working but I wonder how much lag each Windows workstation would experience when working with larger HD files, hmmm... might not be an issue if each user has the source files locally. I want to try it out if I can get my hands on an X-Serve that doesn't belong to a client.
Look at that, the Apple forum at work.
well Wildwell ...
i wouldnt expect any network lag at all because the "client" software sitting on windows machine should just be "pulling levers" across the network and letting the server do all of the heavy lifting using server processors and server disks. so there should be no dragging of any HD files across any network connections. i'd expect the Final Cut Windows client would essentially be x-windowing into a slice of the xserve.
i should also say ... i actually havent used the Windows part of this Apple solution. but i'd be very surprised if an apple cross-platform video editing solution was architected to pull files across the network from server to client, edit them there, then push the committed file back to server. that sounds more like Windows architecture to me. (yeah. zing. big whup.)
anyway ... if you have a good vendor relationship in place already (we use CDW) they should be able to get you an evaluation XServe solution to test completely free.
I don't know how you can call mac 'fanthings' when your post is just dripping exaggeration, and bias.
I would like to see a mac forum as well. I run a MBP a long side my Homebuild PC. There's a lot of mac users who have incredible bias when it comes to their computer, but the same is also true for PC users, especially homebuilders. You don't need to generalize an entire population of users based off of you experience with individuals. If I did that I would assume every PC is like you. Burning with hate towards mac users, and totally ignorant of the fact that they can know anything about a computer
I guess you're either having a bad day or have no sense of humor, to take this post seriously negates any valid points you make in your post to me.
