rdram is a ddr solution and intel chipsets will have a qdr solution before anyone else undoubtably (i.e. "ddr" rdram).
Intel's first ddr solution will not appear until q3 of 2001. DDR and RDRam are different solutions and although they may carry a small bit of technology in common they are different. AMD will have a ddr solution well before Intells p4 will.
in reply to:
rdram solutions which have been out for a long time now still beat ddr in terms of bandwidth by a lot. whine all you want about poor latency and bad performance in office apps,
yes Rdram solutions have been out for a long time and still get beat by SDR solutions on any processor except the p4. whining about high latency is a completely legitimate complaint when the higher latency slows down the perfromance increase allowed by the higher bandwith. What we need to see is a p4 with a ddr solution to effectively compare the two technologies.
in reply too:
but it is likely that future apps will be more sensitive to bandwidth requirements (i.e. 3d software, video etc.).
hmmm...... so buy a processor now for something that may happen when the processor you are buying is outperformed by a cheaper processor today (either p3 or athlon). I fail to see any logic in this at all, excpecially considering that future p4's will have a much better fpu for todays apps as well as these future apps that do not seem to be materializing as fast as some people would have suggested they would.
in reply to:
until amd comes up with a better alternative to via chipsets for their processors it is amd's problem.
hmmm last I checked via made chipsets for the intell processors as well so then it is intell's problem as well?
Has anyone ever heard of ALI? and soon we will see micron chipsets as well as nvidia chipsets.
slvr? your wrong ...sorry bud. I like alot of your posts but ur off on that part.... the 1.13 gig p3 was in retail .I know I was working for gateway at the time..I had two fellow techs with 1.13 in had at there houses I had several customers call about the recall...it made it to market ...as it did with intel..is why it is called a recall..and not a physc job... as in. " we have this for you physc! just kidding".. It actually made it to market.
so can we please drop the recall thing? It was there. was pulled they screwed up. And no, no company has there customers best interest at heart.. So will you all get off the drugs? The point is money, plain and simple. The point of the rambus deal was to get your attention..it worked look at how you all scambled and bitched...I'd say the money spent was well worth it. AND Now you know rambus like the back of your hand ..note the changes from piece of [-peep-] memory ...to now ..its a bandwidth monster.... note the change ppl.. remember ddr? wasn't it supposed to come out AT THE SAME PRICE SINCE IT DIDN'T REQUIRE A MAJOR MODIFICATION...well well... now isn't marketing a wonderful thing? They sucked you all right in again ..wasn't that the team ddr side with amd involved?
now lets try again shall we? Intel sucked you in with its marketing ploy to get you to notice rambus and the new memory.
they got all us experice types to just rant and rave about the product knowing your going to test it to prove them wrong as the p4 5 6 7 8 9 and 10 come out. They grabbed your attention and now you test it ever shot you get to show its crappy...now its oh oh the bandwidth is a good thing the p3 coudln't utilize it...''sucked in" job done price is dropping ppl are slooooowly reconsidering..and they dont have to keep forcing it out there. Feeling like a fool yet?
No?
Ok.
Now team ddr starring amd said.. by god your all right you zealots you... this is what we will do for you. Cause we wuv you. We will assualt chipzilla and the rambus zombie and bring you all the savior...known as ddr sdram...and you all wont have to worry on price because its just a modification to sdram so no major rework of our fabs is nessacary.
IT WONT COST U ANY MORE BUDDY WE PROMISE...C'MOOONNNNNN OVER.
and you all said... thats sounds great we knew you'd save us, come hug me..
Then u proclaimed "death to intel and there shoddy practices
long live ddr" woohoo!
and the darkside smiled...
oh but wait.... it comes out its all of 10% faster
not 50% not 100% but 10% and um it cost a heap more.
whatever happen to same price? well must be you got sucked in again...
Why? because... you all got played for your hate of rambus and Intel.
and the otherside played you like piano.
and and and... LOL Your actually starting to give praise "know it or not" to rambus's high bandwidth.. the latencey thing isn't being touted as much.. TOM...AHEM....
This whole thing with amd rules no intel does is all because your weak minds have been taking by the darkside "marketing".
right now amd holds the speed i dont give a rats ass on the software to make either faster im looking dead at the chip itself. if i cant play or use my old software on it im not going to be impressed ...that simple... amd has the speed right now in 3 months maybe intel again.... 6 months later be amd...
Your absolute total concern on any system u buy build inherit should be this.... fast enough to do play chat work on it ..should be stable..should bloody well work out of the box be it oem or other wise... the ground rule is ... it's my money I want what im looking for.
and that is this .. to stomp u all square out of existence on quake3 unreal turney halflife or any other game come out..and i want to be able to do it on a stable system that works beyond 15 mins.. ok 30...
so stop looking at the marketing ploy ..stand back ...take a breath.. and realise its your money.
give me a p4 with the mother board i want.. and ill blow toms dream machine out of the water...because its all about marketing ... and it can be done either way..
and slvr? only the top half was for you .. just went on a tangent from there on
That’s [-peep-] lame! This thread was dead and now U have to add that stupid worthless message just to increase the number of replies. Who gives a [-peep-]. I guess u will be adding a new message every week to bolster your little ego. Get a life.

I TOTALLY AGREE..
one of the many things AMD systems have problems with...
that is the trouble with AMD Zealots, they are like APPLE Zealots, they defend there systems to the point where fact
and issues do not exist in their mind, and most have not build many systems professionally anyway..
right on guy..
keep up the good FACTUAL posts, and I will do as well,
maybe we can actually help some peole with informative
facts and turn this place from a fantasy shrine to a
well or factual information

If you believe this hypocrite is spreading factual posts, then you're so high up in Pro-Intel stuff you don't know what's going on. Maybe you should try reading some of his posts, they'll change your mind.
(P.S. I build computers for a living )

"648kb is all the space anyone will ever need!"
they are factual, they just don't jive with your wacky
rebellious opinions so you can deal with them..
I cite your signiture as a classic example
what BIll gates said at the time was a fact and true..
the fact you will knock it 8 years later says it all..

Will you stupid lamers shut up. I am really getting fed up of all this AMD bashing. I can buy two Athlons for the price of your P4, which will kick the P4 even in the apps it supposedly shines in, like encoding, video editing, etc, even with optimised FlasK. I really don't see the argument.
I work for a PC maker, not like you 15 year olds who pretend to have jobs I can tell you - the money we saved by buying Athlons and Durons last year more than made up for the tiny number that went poof. We've been running 3 years, first two were Intel, last year was our AMD revolution
Profits were up, sales were up, and no Athlon systems we built have gone poof since December - I guess we must be improving...
FUGGER, AmdMeltdown, and now CYBERIMAGE, you all need to take a course in economics and economies of scale if you no understand why OEMs are switching to AMD (all the reviews in magazines I read last month, and believe me I get a large number for my job, had about 8/10 machines using AMD processors. I wonder why?).
~ I'm not AMD biased, I just think their chips are better. ~
