I'm the first to agree that social interaction in direct form (so not through the internet or the phone) is superior to having some sort of channel in between. Having said that, it is possible to interact through these media, and it is possible to have a sense of community through such media (like it or not, this forum is a community of some sort).
I find it odd that you consider me an abstract thing. I can understand I'm rather one dimensional to you, just using this text forum but the sharing of ideas or even emotions (in a remote sense) should remove the abstraction. You can really hurt people here very easily with your statements and you should be somewhat concerned with the effect your communication here can have on others, and these others aren't abstract people, they're real people. It's a misconception I have heard more often btw, you're not unique in that sense.

Interesting, surviving better than others does not make you a good leader. Getting others to survive better through your guidance, that makes you a good leader.
It is good to be prepared, if the costs of preparation are not in proportion to the probability of the calamity occurring that you are preparing for, then people will look at you funny, as with your bunker idea.

I never said it wasn't possible, that's plain stupid. It's just not for me.
I know you people are real, but not real enough to inhibit me from posting things I would otherwise not say in polite society. It's kind of like what Wingding does with his Mrs. Phillips stories.
It's not even so much the abstractness of it as the fact that despite conversation, people remain strangers. In real life, I want the people I frequently see/converse with to respect me and my opinions, because the people I choose to talk to are people I respect. In a public forum, respect becomes a lot less relevant.
-----
People do make fun of me(in real life also) for my doomsday predictions, but I have to disagree with their laisser-faire attitude. Our planet is being streched thin at an alarming rate something has to give and judging from past, and some very recent events, the first and natural human reaction is to blow [-peep-] up.
What is more likely: humanity in general realizes that the current rate of usage cannot hold indefinitely, as it can't, and starts to self-impose a much stricter life style free from all unreasonable excesses. Or, we each of us pulls the blanket over to cover as much of our fat ass as possible until the proverbial blanket rips and all hell breaks loose.
I don't know about you, but I'm tugging at that blanket with both hands and for all it's worth.

You still have to ask yourself why you visit here but feel no sense of community. There is a bit of roleplaying here for everyone but you have taken it to the point where your role is....not appreciated by most people.
Personally you don't really bother me at all. I just don't understand why you bother with any of it. To practice english seems like a stretch.

I will always maintain there is an actual element of offense inside one's jokes, no matter how much they try to make it seem like it wasn't meant to be harsh.
The Jews jokes people do for example, or the dead babies ones. (I'm surprised you haven't yet reacted to the former) I believe all of it underneath, shows some core intention, that is way off the "joke" aspect, and is either overlooked or cleverly hidden in someone's communication or mind. Once people realize the core aspect and think of the repercussions on the right group (well, actually the "wrong" group), they will see what devil lies inside our mind. Some call it ego.

Thanks for starting my day with a depression
. I understand your point (I think) but I'm just too fond of a good laugh to accept that every joke has malicious intent.
If you can't take a (good) joke, I'd say that would be an indication of not having enough ego (lack of self-esteem).

I'm still interested in the specifics of what made you state that snorkius is living in a hell on earth. What is so awefull in his outlook on life that makes it a hell, in your opinion?

Is there such thing as a "good" racial joke? Jokes about Jews or Mexicans for example, are any of them "good"?
Long live Dhanity and the minions scouring the depths of Wingdingium!
good question.
If you want to make fun of a certain characteristic of a group (can be race or otherwise) it should be about something that is not morally questionable to other groups. Example, it is perfectly acceptable to me to make jokes about Scottish or Jewish people with regard to their spending habits.
It is not good to make jokes about Jewish people, that rip other people off, which tries to establish that that is how they became rich in the first place, and it can be extrapolated to being powerful, and influencial with hidden agenda's etc.
Establishing any group as inferior to other groups is morally deplorable, and the malicious intent of such jokes is obvious.
I strongly favor jokes that have nothing to do with groups, but are directly aimed at persons, their weaknesses and their strengths. Pointing out someone's weakness can be painful but it carries the potential benefit that the victim will actually learn something from it and address the weakness. If the victim perceives the issue to be an actual strength, then no harm is done, right?
. Finally, there is also something like intensity. Making a joke once or twice is quite different from repeating it ad nauseam (indefinitely).

It's not that. What I was getting at, was that the jokes that are especially of a controversial nature, such as racial jokes, often become accepted in certain groups, not taking into account they have some kind of negative intent underneath, even if subconscious. One person once told me something I won't forget, because it rings of truth to me: when I joke with someone, I am trying to make them laugh, I am trying to therefore dominate their feelings. The person who retorts back, shows they consciously chose to laugh and send back the message that they did not let themselves be manipulated.
A regular joke may seem harmless until you realize some aspects of truth to them. Then you have to see why you said it in the first place. (in this context though joke meant laughing at someone's characteristic, that seems to be funny and accepted in public)
I take tons of jokes at me, but it doesn't mean I don't see through some of them.

Also check my response to DH's question, to understand what I consider to be "bad" jokes, aimed at stigmatizing a whole group.
Of course there's plenty of jokes here that are directed straight at you only as an excuse, rather attacking a group, in your case for instance gays.
You know my attitude towards gays and gay rights, still, if someone is displaying over the top stereotypical behavior (jokingly or not), I do like to make fun of that. If a joke just attacks the group (for no reason, no relevance with regard to the topic at hand) I do have a problem with it.
Btw, I also have a good laugh about the posts in here that display clear over the top masculinity. [SoD]"Wanna fight huh? My dck is bigger than yours anyway! Wanna see? and I can fix phones too!" [/SoD]
Btw, and sorry if I go too much off topic now, I remember from a while back that you were actually still rather unclear about yourself in terms of being gay or bi-sexual. Have things become more clear to you now? Don't even answer if it's not any of my business here, I was just wondering though. You're still obviously flirting (with the concept) in some of your posts.
