You know there is only a 1 year split between the 360 and the PS3 right? I don't think the 360 is even over the hill yet, much less turning gray. There isn't a huge technological difference between the two consoles and in some regards the 360 is more advanced.

That said, I do suspect the PS3 will be the console of choice for JRPGs near the middle and end of it's lifespan, but not so much yet. The 360 is getting that attention right now and it may or may not keep it depending on the sales numbers of those games. If it has attracted enough jRPG players then it will retain the development. If not, then the developers will try out the PS3 or just develop for both.

Given the games you are looking for I would either get a 360 now for the games that are available there, or wait until there are at least 3 games on the PS3 that are must haves for you.

I have both, the PS3 is better overall. The 360 has the games now but as with the original xbox it will only be a matter of time until the PS3 catches up. The xbox has better online but it also costs 50.00 a year versus free with the PS3. Games like COD4 I see no difference online, main difference it content downloads which I could care less about. If you buy an xbox expect as some point to be without it for at least a month when you get the red ring of death. PS3 is a better deal, blu-ray, wireless network card, rechargeable controller all come standard. I only bought a PS3 to use as a blu-ray player and I ended up liking it better. PS3 has outsold the xbox the last 2 consecutive months, Microsoft says it's due to shortages but the truth is that people are starting to buy it now that the HD war is over-Blu-ray won. HD-DVD might have stood a chance if the 360 had came standard with it, but Microsoft went the cheap route.

If you are into HD video and don't mind paying the premium prices for the movies right now, then the PS3 is probably the better deal.

I don't care about playing games online so my free silver account suits me just fine for Xbox Live. The PS3 just has a terrible interface though when compared to both the 360 and the Wii and not as good a selection of games just yet. It will improve but if you aren't looking for a bluray player yet, I don't see much in the way of compelling reasons to get a PS3.

By cheap route, you mean not charging $200 more?

With that bold statement... since when did the original xbox catch up to the PS2? Or did you mean the PS2 caught up to the xbox? It was never behind. Were you trying to say that the PS3 finally caught up with the original xbox and is now ready to take on the 360?

Just so you know, both the 360 and the Wii have twice the sales of the PS3. I seem to remember back in the PS2 days when the PS2 had more units out than both the xbox and GC combined. Did either the GC or xbox catch up? No. Why would the PS3 catch up? It has less sales and games, and it will continue to have less games and less units sold until the next gen. How many of those sales will be for bluray only purposes? The PS3 will go the route of the xbox and GC.

Reply to Can Not

Actually, the PS3 is around 11 million units, 360 at 17.5 million, and the Wii at 22.6 million.

I love 360 always! i have been a xbox fan from ages! PS3's blue ray might tip off HD by a little, but 360 is unique and has great potential for 3rd gens games! i just love its controller when compared to a PS3 one!
